so friday night after work i got my car in the shop, took off the hood, wiper mech, got the top two bellhousing bolts out, and was waiting for a customer to drop off his mark for an oil change, tire rotate and engine bay detail. so while i waited for him to drop it off, i changed my pass valve cover. saturday i worked on his car and changed my buddy rich's chrome 10 spoke wheels out for my old chrome speedstars, then got back onto my car late yesterday, today i finished what i wanted to do to the motor and here are the pics, there are alot so forgive me! tomorrow after work i am stopping to pick up the trans gaskets and seals, and i will get the new trans and another 97 trans i have on my bench, and do the j-mod and electronic internal swap done, and i am gonna start working under the car pulling stuff out including the rear diff so i can swap in the 4:30 pumpkin. i will slowly be working on it throughout the week and hit it hard again this upcoming weekend. i dont know if i will ever feel it, i highly doubt it, but i ported the whole upper plenum all the way through to the bottom of the runners, if anything air will flow better through it, but thats about it, it only took me a half hour to do it so !!!

well when it breaks i have no choice! i didnt want to touch it lol. i have the rear knuckles off, axles out, the rear diff is out, the trans will be out this morning, i only have 4 bolts still holding it to the block, i have my new trans cooler, the electric fan for it, the tranny itself is all ready and put back together and painted up, the new diff is ready to go in, but not till the trans is back in because i didnt drop the gas tank, saved some work. gonna do 2 new u-joints on my driveshaft too, might as well, and replacing the trans mount with a brand new one too. i am taking pics along the way so i will post them at a later time.

yesterday and today's progress. trans is in and done except for being filled up, my 4:30 rear diff is in, the IRS is all back together, rear is filled with royal purple 75w-90, i still have to mount the trans cooler tomorrow, mount the trans cooler fan, wire the fan, put a valve block inline with one of trans lines so i can hook up the temp sensor to the trans temp gauge in my pillar pod, fill the trans, put the wiper mechanism and wiper cowl back on and put the hood on , install the new computer and go for a ride, i might not have it done tomorrow, after last night and today i am very sore, it would have been nice with a helping hand but whatever, its almost done!

You are hardcore my man .... kudos ! Today will be an easy day ;)

Not sure how far apart you had the trans, but I hope you lined up the OD servo pin with the OD band if you pulled it (it tends to drop if you have the trans upside down).

today was a total waste, i got my trans cooler mounted and the lines hooked back up, got the trans temp sensor in, and got the fan mounted for the cooler and wired up. i dont know what happend, but i never had the temp sensor wired to the trans gauge, the gauge was just sitting in the pod and would light up when i turned the lights on, but after hooking it up today to the temp sender and turned the key on smoke came out of the pillar, when i took it back down, 2 of the wires going to the gauges had the jacket melted completely off them so thats when i threw in the towel, i had to walk away i cant even think about the car right now it can sit until i am ready to go back to it.

best thing i could have done, now the wifey is gonna make forget about the car, at least for tonight! not a total waste after all!!!

well now i have a full transmission and a leaky god d--- dipstick tube, even with a brand new o-ring too. and not to mention i fired the car up, and went through the gears but i first went to reverse, then went to drive, then as i went back to park i see the indicator light still on drive but the shifter handle was in park, it didnt feel right, so i went under the car to see what happened and the shifter linkage cable was broken, i must have caught it on the old trans when i was taking it out. so i had to go outside and jack up a parts car, crawl under it and disconnect the linkage and then go in the car and remove the whole shifter mechanism, then i had to pull my console out and rip my shifter mechanism out and replace with the other one, got that done, then noticed the dip stick leaking, son of a b---- seriously???? i was all ready to drive it tonight, now i have to rip the dip stick out and drain all the fluid into a clean bucket. i figured out my burnt wire problem too, the idiots at glowshift have a mistake on the wiring diagram on the directions that came with my volt meter, i compared them to the diagram on the website and its different, thats why i fried a wire last night in my pillar.
i missed work today because i couldnt sleep last night from hurting my back so bad, my problem is when i need help, if i cant get any, i force myself to get the job done alone no matter what, and then i pay for it later, i know one thing i am not gonna be able to hurt my back too many more times before it does permanent damage.
so now, the car deffinetly wont see pavement again until friday night or saturday i need a few days away from it. the car seemed to run great with brandons computer he sent me, but i have yet to drive the car! my trans temp sensor works perfect i heated it up with a lighter and watched the gauge, then stuck it in front of my trans cooler fan and turned it on and it dropped quickly, so, all i got left to do is fix the trans dip stick leak, put the wiper mechanism back in and wiper cowl, put the hood back on, bolt the front bumper back to the car and stick the headlights in and go for a ride, if anything goes wrong, look for an oil slick on the side of the gandy bridge!

Sorry to hear about your trouble, and your back, Jamie. It sounds like a break is exactly what you need.

At least you have the knowledge, parts, and a plan. you'll be back on the road soon enough.

Good luck.

Did you get a chip/tune for those 4.30s? Some ppl claim a speedo gear is needed also, but I never used one on my gen 2.
