Need suspension idea's !!!

Hi all,

Need some suspension idea's for my '94 MK VIII. Car has 111,000 miles on odometer. I am planning a complete change for the car (new paint color, new interior, new exhaust, etc...). Sruts need replacement. Want to drop car an inch or so and install larger rims and tires (18"). May need to change out suspension components. Please advise best set up options and if it will affect air suspension. Thanks.

RE: Need suspension idea's !!!

With that many miles and the problems you are already aware of, the best advice I can offer is to start with the ball joints and go inward.
The upper control arms and ball joints are sold as an assembly and are avaiable from Eddie at American Air Suspension, along with the air struts, rebuilt compressors and the spider valve.
MN12 sells a bushing kit with all the bushings in polygraphite. You can get greasable lower ball joints from NAPA, or you can get new lower control arms from FPN with non greasable ball joints and standard bushings already installed.
Be sure you get new sway bar links while you are at it (NAPA), as they are the source of many clunks and bumps. You will probably also need new inner and outer tie rod ends also.
You WILL NEED a fully equipped shop with a press and attendant pieces to do this job. Some of the bushings, and the lower ball joints in particular, are a PITA to press in and out.
You can do a simple sensor lowering after you finish, and be sure to get your front end aligned AFTER YOU DO THE LOWERING!
Good Luck!

just replace the worn components with stock, and adjust the sensors on the air suspension to make it ride lower.

How do you do a "sensor lowering"? Thanks.
