New motor or just mast?

I came home last night and so my Mark injured :( The antenna mast was only partially down and the fuel door was hanging open.

xo What the hell did they do to my car!!!

My dad tells me that all he did was turn the radio on. Well the antenna never went fully up and he just let it be. The motor continued to run FOREVER because it always knew it was never fully extended. The only way to get the motor to shut off is to push the antenna all the way down. When its fully down the motor won't run.

So am I looking at a new mast or a new mast and motor? Need to get it fixed quick because a drive without any musical distraction is driving me crazy.

Thanks ahead of time.

Five Star the best option on getting a new one?

Sounds like just a mast. (broken off at the reel) They go for about $15 + shpg on the auction site. I dont know five stars' price.

RE: New motor or just mast?

From the manual...

Mast, Power

Note:

A power antenna mast which is bent or broken can be replaced without replacing the electric antenna assembly.

Removal

1. Remove radio antenna nut (18865) and radio antenna stanchion (18919).

2. Remove mast retaining nut.

3. Turn radio chassis ON to raise plastic drive wire out of motor. Note direction of teeth on drive wire.

4. Saw off damaged portion of antenna mast. Remove burrs from mast and slide nut and contact tube off stationary tube.

Installation

1. Turn radio chassis OFF, then ON, and then OFF again to run electric antenna motor down. (Motor will run approximately 20 seconds.) Push end of plastic drive wire of replacement mast assembly down into tube with teeth of wire facing antenna motor.

2. Slide contact tube and mast retaining nut down antenna mast. Tighten mast retaining nut to 0.45 N-m (4 lb-in).

3. Install radio antenna stanchion and radio antenna nut.

4. Raise and lower antenna several times to make sure of proper operation.

Hope this helps.
