New NYC law about - The "intent" to drag race

From the Daily news:

under this bill drag racing will be a crime punshable by a max sentence of 6 months in jail and a $600 fine for the first offense.

A 2nd offense will get you 1 year and $1000 fine.

Here is the funny part:

Under the bill ,"WOULD BE" drag racers will face the same penaltys if mearly caught demonstrating that a race is "imminent".

That includes having equipment in cars for:
"injecting speed boosting nitrous oxide" ,
making an "invitation" to race ,
wagering on it's outcome ,
raising a car vertically (IS THAT A WHEELIE?),
and or "spinning" a vehicle in a circle.

Oh yea ,
they take your car too.

Now I'm not condoning street racing BUT it
Sounds like someone watched The fast and furious too many times.
They race on city streets at 130+ mph and then hit the button and go warp speeds,
so fast there floorbards fall out,
jumping bridges and stuff.
IT'S A FREAKING MOVIE !

This is crazy and bias IMO,
why would Nitrous be different then a turbo or supercharger ?
Maybe my car is slow and I need some sort of power adder to merge on the Long Island Expressway.

Does that mean I am intending to race HERE and NOW cause I have a bottle ?
Because I have a gun ,does that mean I intend to murder someone ?

We can thank the stupid ricers for all of this,
Making noise, weaving in and out of lanes, blowing red lights and stop signs,
Trying to "drift" on the street
(see my post "Chevelle almost got creamed tonight")
That my friends is NOT Drag racing !
That is what the real problem is young inexperanced ricers,
some of them in fast expensive cars.

Then to boot,
They close the only dragstrip on Long Island.
Now there taking about closing Englishtown too,
because the nitwits who bought million dollar homes
near there don't like
the noise or traffic,
but he noise from the airport is OK.

Come on people lets get back to reality ::roll::

RE: New NYC law about - The "intent" to drag race

Yeah...it's just the ricers that street race and make noise. You never, ever see someone in a muscle car with open headers or a Mustang/Camaro with a loud exhaust chirping tires or doing burnout...never ever...stupid ricers...

RE: New NYC law about - The "intent" to drag race

In New York City, you rarely see muscle cars on the street any more. I only see them at car shows.

Seeing import car drivers racing and weaving in and out of traffic is an almost daily occurance.

Well, i guess that means if you get pulled over and want to keep your car, whether you were racing or not, you are now required to evade the police. If they can confiscate your car for having a bottle of nitrous in the trunk, you better not get pulled over for a rolling stop.

I am no angel by any means.
I have a loud muscle car too.
The sound is not obnioxous driving it normally.
I will also admit I will run the LSC on the street once in a while.
You won't see me endangering lives with either car.
I will do it when the opertunity is safe.
Do you often see the musclecars weaving
in and out of cars on the street ?
Muscle cars with open headers you don't see everyday.
Mustangs and Camaros , once in a while,
9 out of 10 times its a fart canned Honda or VW driving like a jackass.
It's not about the noise ,
it's about the mentality.

RE: New NYC law about - The "intent" to drag race

BTW I forgot about this one :

Spectators who "egg" on drag racing could land in jail
for 15 days and a $250 fine.

A spectator is someone who "participates" in a race by acts
"that reasonably appear to support such a race"' such as
"wagering on the outcome or actively encouraging the participants to the race".

So if you are hanging out and someone is racing,
you turn to your buddy and say "I bet you $1 the blue car will win".
You are a criminal.

RE: New NYC law about - The "intent" to drag race

stupid legislators don't realize that THEY encourage this kind of behavior by shutting down dragstrips.

The legislators don't shut down thhe tracks, it's the million dollar homeowners who buy a newly built home next door to a strip that has been around since the 50's! They move in then complain about the noise. I have a new neighbor who just bought a newly built home next door to a farm which is one of the only left in the area. This new "neighbor" and I use the term loosly, is suing his next door neighbor because of the farm noises such as the roosters that crow at 4AM or the animals that make noise all day long.

I can "sort of" understand this new NYC law because of all I see every day out on our roads. It's sort of like saying if you carry a loaded gun down the street you probably have the "intent" to commit a crime. But I don't get the nitrous part, nitrous isn't illegal here is it? And if the bottle is empty does that mean you still have the "intent" because others perceive you as a racer? This is a strangely worded law indeed.

I carry a loaded gun around on the street all the time and i haven't committed a crime with it yet. That's just as ludicrous as saying that someone who has a fast car has an intent to race.

Most people who race on the street don't think they are endangering lives, either. It just "happens". No one deliberately tried to kill anyone in a race, it just happens. Racing on the street is stupid. Period. The nearest track to my house is about 2 hours away. I lived there for most of the summer. Save it for the track. I don't care if it's 5 hours away. If you race on the street, be willing to pay the consequences...including losing your car or your life. It's just stupid...you get what you deserve...

Lighten up there tuff guy.
I think you totally missed the whole point of the post.

RE: New NYC law about - The "intent" to drag race

That's just incredible.

And Ron, I can say with fair certainty that Matt knows what he's talking about. He takes that stuff very seriously, and we had a very serious discussion about my son's driving habits, and how I could get him "educated" in car handling, etc.

And sorry, Matt, I still haven't done that. Everything I look into is sooooo pricey.

But I can't understand the nitrous thing either - what if you're on your way to the track?

RE: New NYC law about - The "intent" to drag race

Matt, I told you to go with the blower, remember ...... ????

hehehe, it's insane. soon you'll be in jail for having 300rwhp.
