New Paint Care?

The 'Blue Flame' is getting touched up and will be emerging soon. The hood and front bumper are being repainted as well as some rocker panel and ding repairs. The issue is now is the prime time for road trips... I.E., St. Louis, MO and Carlisle, PA plus hopefully some track excursions.

I KNOW the road trips will not be friendly to the new paint, but short of parking it what can be done to minimize any possible damage? What about issues like washing, waxing, polishing, rain, sun, car covers, etc...?

RE: New Paint Care?

Will the 3M Clear Bra be OK on 'fresh' paint?

I used to have mudflaps when it was a daily driver. I may even still have a spare set around, though I'm not keen on the looks now.

What about washing/waxing/polishing? Is there anything I shouldn't do just yet? Or should I try to get some good wax on ASAP?

I have a light weight indoor cover I use to cover the car in the garage to keep it dust free. Is this something OK to do?

It's not a 'Moose' quality show car, I just don't want to do anything stupid. ::uh::

RE: New Paint Care?

New paint cures fast today, guys detail and put 3m clear bra on new cars all the time. Ask the body shop how long you should wait.

Did you ever watch overhauling; they are using the buffer on new paint with in hours of comming out of the booth.

RE: New Paint Care?

Talk to the guy painting your car. There is a certain amount of time you need to wait before applying any kind of wax ( I am just not sure how long that time is). Also dont go throwing on something like the 3m clear bra until you talk with the painter. He will be able to tell you what you can/should do and don't.

RE: New Paint Care?

You can do as i did and get a regular bra. It's ugly as sin, but it does the trick for road trips. Your car will still get beat up on the daily drive, though.
