NEW SUB!!

RE: NEW SUB!!

Man that's a kick butt sub. It's either that sub or the RE XXX that I will be getting later this year. Hopefully it comes soon, I've heard there's a nationwide backorder beacause some parts come from areas infected with SARS.

Ported or sealed box? What amp will power it? Inquiring minds want to know :)

RE: NEW SUB!!

Im thinking ported. I love the tight responsive sound that comes from a sealed box, but from people I have talked to, as long as it is in a properly tuned box, the response only gets better. Might as well try it, what do I have to lose, a shee of MDF?

I was kinda thinking of the Kicker KX1200.1 for 1200w at 1ohm. RMS on the sub is 1000W and it says that normal music program is 1800W. And I have seen birth sheets on the kickers for upwards of 1400 watts, so i figure they would be a good match. I would also consider the Kicker SX line if I could find them anywhere.... I was also looking at the Pheonix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 and a few others, I haven't really decided. But im in no rush to pick one, this is going to be the first stereo that I'm really doing 'right' so when I have enough money set aside to pick up another couple components, it will be time to start buying amps.

As always, if you know of something that would pump this sub, I would love to hear about it.

RE: NEW SUB!!

The kicker SX line will start shipping around the end of the month. I wouldn't go over a 1200 watt amp for daily driving, the subs are super effiecient, and don't take much to get loud. From what I have haeard, especially lately, you may want to look at a class AB amp instead of class D. The IDMAX is super sensitive to distortion. The only problem with AB is they are power hungry at lower levels. USAMPS makes high quality 1 ohm stable AB amps.

Ported can have good SQ, but Sealed usually has better. Porting the MAX will get you louder though. With a sub that clean, it's really your preference. THey even work great as infinate baffle subs, i.e. no box is required. Just make sure you separate the backwave from the frontwave to avoid cancellation. The rear deck is legit place, but you have to be careful of the sun rotting out the cones, or it getting stolen.
