Hey guys I just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Scott and I am currently in the market to purchase a mark VIII. I have driven a couple and seen a few but just not the right one yet. This seems to be a very informative site so I hope to participate as much as possible and hope to learn a lot about these cars. Thanks for having a free site to learn from and to contribute too.

Welcome from burlington county!!! I found some nice ones on craigslist.org. Joined in march when i got my first one and i'm trying to get my third.

Thanks guys! I am glad to see the site is filled with great information and it is an added to plus to see local NJ guys on here as well.

If there was one thing you guys could change about your Mark VIII what would it be? By change I mean a factory part or setup.

Well i would say the 1-2 shift accumulator because that is more of a functional part rather then the aluminum heads which is more of a performance emhancer.....just my 2 cents.

I guess what I am looking for is if there is one thing on your cars that you could change what would it be? Maybe the location of the stereo or the buttons for the info center or maybe the wheel selections from the factory? Something along those lines.

Good point J...the whole engine is aluminum....

Right now i'm having a hard time deciding between 1-2 shift accumulator and aluminum heads.:(

Maybe he was thinking along the lines of mustangs with the 302's were people swap out to aluminum heads for better performance and flow.

personally i would love my mark just a tad more if it were a stick shift, but thats one thing i would not try to change and its something i can deal with

Welcome!

I wish my green Mark had a moonroof instead of my red one. The green one is my summer car.:D

Thanks for the welcome fella's! I'm hoping to pick up a nice Mark VIII this week!

Yeah the heads are already aluminum. I thought the question was "what would you change". My aluminum heads just threw a spark plug.

Oh no not these engines too! How common of a problem is this...the launching of plugs? I know Lightning owners were reporting a few going right through the hood.

Like most issues, the internet forums tend to give you the impression it's more common than in the real world.

When's the last time you seen a post that says "I didn't spit a plug from my aluminum head today!" :D

If you regularly maintain your vehicle, you're not as likely to throw a plug as someone who just drives it and expects the 100k miles out of the original platinum plugs.

I could see it being a more common issue with the Lightnings, considering they're boosting.

Yeah the 01-03 lightnings were having a lot of problems and ford was replacing the heads on the trucks still under warranty. I didnt hear much about the 03-04 cobra's though, maybe they had a better design right from the start. I know you can tap and thread the head if it happens because we have done it on customers cars/trucks at work but I am not a fan of going that route and I tell the customers there is no warranty on the work.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm liking this site a lot...now if I could only sell my truck so I can by a nice mark VIII!
