No Mufflers

Well, just to update things, I cut my mufflers off today. Sounds much better. I just had the stock 100 pound (sarcasm) mufflers on, but I took a sawzall to them, cut both right before the weld, and ran chrome turn-downs right behind the wheels. Sounds real mean.

I did the same last week but I used the stock tips (have a 97) sounds good But i do have to say when its at idle it sound like a boat with a higher idle speed that blub blub blub sound but all in all sound good wish i did it sooner

Oh btw IDLE should not be higher... right around 750...

You may need a new IACV (Idle air control valve) or clean the old one... on a gen 2 it is a piece of cake.

The idle isn't higher what I ment was it sounds like (a boat with higher idle speed) boats sound like they idle slow blub blub

LOL i just chped my mufflers off last night and it sounds so awesome im going tomorrow to get the pipes run all the way i love how it sounds now i feel like im driving a mustang cobra or something

but now i got this stinky ass egg smell someone told me it was the cat's how could i clean them out or should i just have them removed ?

ha ha yeah i think i need new o2 censors and i havnt hit the muffler shop yet so there are no welds im waiting for my tips in the mail then im going to the muffler shop. thanx guy's

The welds are not going to smell like rotten eggs that is for sure... 9/10 times it is the 02 sensors 1/10 times it is actually the cats going bad.

are you serious? I sometimes get a smell but not all the time... I was thinking of having them chopped off, having High Flow Cats put in, and a X-pipe but if i can just get some O2 sensors and take that smell away then hell ill do that for now.

Yea I am serious.. that rotten egg smell is your cats working overtime because the A/F mixture is messed up due to faulty O2 sensors.

You guys can use some different tips instead of straight pipes to modify the sound at idle...

So, two different tips, both with a 2.5" inlet will have different sounds? I am looking at tips and don't want the "kid" sound but it is hard to find conservative tips with 2.5" inlet. The smallest ovals I have found with a 2.5" inlet are 3" x 4.5" and am not sure if the sound will be acceptable. I would like to keep the stock look but it seems only 2.25" inlet tips will have an oval close to stock. Would 2.25" inlet tips affect performance of a 2.5 true dual setup?

Not just any tips... there are some tips have resonators built in those are the ones I have been referring to.

You would have to use a reducer on the 2.25 tips... and I doubt it would affect anything. But I'd do some searching for the correct sized tips to avoid the unnecessary welding etc.

Running with no mufflers can be good and bad - I did that same thing when i first got my car and it made it sound waayy loud, and its ok to run without them as long as the cats/resonators are still in, if there is too much flow you can hurt one of your valve's, I have flowmasters - sound good, its safe, and retain ur HP
