OEM Ford Halogen Kit for 97-98 Mark VIII

low beam problem

low beam problem

So if I am understanding you guys right, I have to buy a completely new head light assembly just to replace my low beam problem. My passenger side headlight only works if the brights are on. The low beams do not work for the passenger side and I get the message to check head lamps. From looking at these pics that were posted, it isn't the bulb that comes from the casing that you have to turn (the black cover but the pic with the sort of clear cover over it, hope this makes sense) to pull out but the one that you have to take the screw out to get to the bulb. I went to NAPA auto parts and they said they only list the high beam bulb but not the lows and tried telling me I need to purchase from Ford a 285 dollar part. Any suggestions or could someone sum up what was already said about this. I don't know hardly anything about cars, so please excuse my ignorance. Your help is much appreciated.

This is what I got from seeing an ad on ebay for my bulb replacement. Does this make any sense? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280134321730&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:US:1

Hi,

Thank you for your interest.

According to our system, your mark should use 9005 low beam light bulbs.

Would you please verify this information by referring to your auto user manual?

Thank you,
Allen

your car's lowbeam is a high intensity discharge bulb, you cannot purchase them brand new anymore, they are obsolete. no auto parts store can get you one, and never could, even when available it was a dealer only item. the price they gave you of 285 is about right, but, your only option is to get lucky and fine one on a shelf in a dealer that has never been sold, or wait for ebay to pop one up that someone has kept for years and never used it, but the most popular option is to purchase a used one from someone who is parting out a mark VIII. i sell them often used, and the average going price used for just the bulb is between 165 to 250. seems obsured to pay that, so thats why jeremi has started this post to let people know what ford has done to " fix " this burnt out hid problem.

I wish I could get those from ford but.......I have never seen those at all. There is a rumor that some were sent out. then.....
Just as I thought would happen....Well here we go again!! here is another set back.....sorry....now it looks like the mid-end of september
The tentitive price was at $729.07 and the tentitive cost to you would be $524.93, providing the cost stays the same.
Now I may be premature in the pricing because of the sub supplier issues that could or would change pricing before they even ship any.

Reprogramming!

Reprogramming!

I am new, Thanks for the oppurtunity. We just installed this kit on my buddy's 97 and afterword's had to take to dealer for reprogramming. $190.00.
The car would not even start afterward. This means we have a working (HID) bulb, and 2 very clean complete assembly's (RH and LH), as well as the transformers (I think that is what they are called) for each assy., and the control module (behind the glove box). From reading the thread the bulb obviously has some value, but my question(s) is/are: Do these other parts have any real value?
If so, should they be marketed as a package or separately?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe.

It's official that the HID bulbs won't be available anymore.

This is the only LEGAL option to replace the burn out bulbs on a 2nd gen car.

There is nothing to service 1st gen HID assemblies, of course short of buying the flaky halogen versions.

The retail price is set to be around $750. I will do my best to make these available at better pricing, but it's not going to be cheap. I hope for $650, maybe less. Keep in mind we'll be getting two brand new headlights for the price, and worry free performance, be it with legal halogen 9006 bulbs, or aftermarket rebased 9006 D2S style bulbs. Thanx Ford !

this isnt an answer, but just some too late advice, if you guys had left the old scil module in the car it would have started and ran like nothing was ever done. you do not need that module when changing to those lights, ford wont tell you that though, because they enjoyed that 190 bucks they got to reprogram a car that didnt need to be! too late now.

So what is the final price?
