The '96 inherited the ART 2-1/2" cat-back dual exhaust from the '93. I had the old Dynomax UltraFlows scrapped for a pair of polished SS Magnaflows and mondo oval tips. :D

The tone is nice and no drone. I had a pair of flanges installed right before the rear differential for easy differential swaps.

Is there an x pipe in place of the 3rd cat now?

Yep! :)

Looks just like that. We cut the old mufflers off and cut the downpipes off and it fit like a glove from the cats back.

A couple times. I had 'drill bit' bring it to the track and let him run it. Pretty much low 15s with stock exhaust and bling-bling 18's...

I can't delete the third cat. I would fail the emissions test. I went with a 2 in 2 out cat.

You CAN delete the 3rd cat and still pass the Emissions part of the emissions test, but if you have a "visual" part of it, you won't pass it. I deleted my 3rd cat and passed the sniffer with flying colors and I live in Cali! I removed the substrate(catalyst material inside the cat) so it would still look factory on the outside.

Tommy has no 3rd cat and he fail the NOX test.

J, Do you have a print out of a emissions done to your car?

I agree, I've been reading alot lately that you can tune your car to run as lean as 18 to 1 air/fuel ration in a naturally aspirated car with pump gas and no problems. I would think if your getting a tuner from sct or someone that you can tune your car to run lean (while not under a load) and pass ANY sniff test out there. Your car may need tuned if your not passing the test where you live. Innovate sells a nice meter, the lm1, check there web page for helpful ideas on burning clean and getting better mileage as a result of it.

A tune can do wonders but, if you lean a car out too much, you could/will fail another portion of the emissions, such as CO or O2. If you're 02 levels are too high(super lean) than you won't pass. The best thing to do would be to turn off the O2's, and run the car at a lean-ER mixture than factory...this will keep the cylinder temps down but still heat up the cats to burn off any excess fuel.

Obviously ANY OBD2 car is going to be impossible to tune and pass smog due to the fact that you have to hook up the smog machine to the DL connector.....any codes(CE light on/off), any parameters OUT of factory spec(as per BAR/EPA regulations) and you're done for.

Your best bet....buy pre-96 cars and make them super fast, yet de-tuneable for smog issues. Ofcourse this is for Cali, where I live, and we have the most strict smog laws in the country.....hense the reason I've been able to learn so many ways to "trick" the system :D
