Oxygen Sensors

Hey, I have a high milage (173,000+) 94 base mark. How often should the o2 sensors be changed. I have not done this in the 3 years that I have owned the car and do not know if they were changed prior to my purchase. I intend on removing the 3rd cat and resonator and running duals with an x pipe and mufflers in the stock location. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Oxygen Sensors

Thanks for the warm welcome,

I have not noticed any smoke. I have recently changed my fuel pump to a walbro 255 and replaced my injectors with low milage ones out of a 96 Cobra. I attempted to have my originals cleaned by a pro, but that did not work as he fried the solenoids?! Any suggestions of what brand to use and where to get them. Does the old saying "you get what you pay for" apply to these items?

RE: Oxygen Sensors

My O2s lasted me just over 80k miles, then I started to get a bad idle. After I replaced them I even got better gas mileage. My guess would be you replace them when needed, or if you want to be proactive about them, I would say 100k miles.

RE: Oxygen Sensors

Thanks for the info, Steve. What brand did you use. I am sure that all of the autoparts stores carry them, however I am fond of using ford parts as they seem to last longer and nor fail.
