Painting Door Hinge

Okay, I'm lousy with rattle can spray paint, but I need to paint and replace a door hinge for my TC. I would like it to look half decent even though its just a door hinge that most people won't notice except me.

First of all what brand of paint should I get? The hinge is black. Do I need to use a primer or is it already primed? Will I need to spray with clear coat also?

Second, What's the best procedure for rattle can painting?

Like I said, I haven't had much luck spraying anything and I'd appreciate your help.

Is this a new hinge or already installed? Painting into the door jam will be tough. either way sand a little to scuff it up. always primer a few light coats are better. once the primer is dry spray on the top coat (any rust resistant paint, since it is only the hinge). again many light coats will be better than one heavy coat.

If looks are important wet sand between each top coat.

As for clear: Why one a hinge?

EDIT: Be sure to tape off around the hinge if already installed. I'm sure you know that but I wanted to be sure.
