Passed a cop at 115mph

So me and a buddy were leaving a restraunt Saturday night. Me in my slightly modified Mark VIII and he in his supercharged dropped Honda civic. We pull onto I-95S and get the same idea to be idiots on the highway and see who is faster/the better driver. We both floor it-I have nothing but 'straight' pipes from my manifolds, so I roar. He whines. Going up to 100, 110, 115. There isn't any traffic and the roads are well lit, so no problem, right? I'm in the slow vehicle lane doing 115+, he is behind me in the travel lane getting smaller in my rear view mirror, when we pass a cop in the fast lane. Talk about feeling your heart drop. He forces me to the shoulder, my buddy's brakes lock up and he spins out of control to avoid hitting the cop. My buddy takes off, I'm stuck. Long story short, I wasn't drinking so I got away with it. Imagine that ticket. The lesson learned? Race in the wee hours of the night, and be faster next time.

I had that happen to me once at 108mph...

Of course, I had a bs story about my granfather having a stroke and I weas on my way..........Well, story was true, I just left out that it had happened 2 day earlier. :) But, no ticket here either.

RE: Passed a cop at 115mph

Let me get this straight. Your friend spun out. The cop saw you racing him. The cop saw you driving 115 mph. The cop pulled you over. The cop let you go with out a ticket based solely on the fact that you weren't drinkin?

If I knew how, I would be the first to raise the BS flag/smiley on this one. And I'm not even one to usually call BS.

RE: Passed a cop at 115mph

Like I said, something similar happened to me ---- so its possible. But likely, I dunno about that.

RE: Passed a cop at 115mph

bah thats nothing.... past an unmarked crown vic at around 125 or so...

I was just a "little" upset at the woman... that was the same night I made the 120 mile drive in 1hr. 8min.

I never let up and the cop didn't even switch his lights on. :)

RE: Passed a cop at 115mph

My thoughts are that if you're going that fast... why stop? I suppose if the cop car had a camera it might be able to get your plates, but I don't know if a human could focus on your plate that quick as you whipped by. Even if they're rolling, you're going much faster than they are, and it will take a bit for them to catch up.

However, I would quickly get off the expressway , and hide somewhere, cause I'm chicken :)

RE: Passed a cop at 115mph

Well besides that the mark 8 is a car usually associated with guys 40 and up; I find that cops tend to show a little slack to guys in that age bracket since they figure they know what they are doing and they can more or less connect with the guy driving since they might be in the same age bracket. Now your friend in the honda would have definitely have gotten a ticket because he would have figured:"Stupid kid" or something. I have never gotten a ticket for speeding and have passed cops riding the governor(128MPH)-I had one pull next to me when I was on Route 1 in Philly and start asking me about my car and stuff- So I think that it's a matter of association and appreciation.

RE: Passed a cop at 115mph

MAYBE FLAMARK COULD CHIME IN ON THIS ONE A BIT........ Give us a cops perspective

RE: Passed a cop at 115mph

The cop basically took a right turn into my Mark VIII, so I had to stop to avoid any damage. He was 'pushing' me onto the shoulder. I didn't get a ticket because I admitted to being a jackass, wasn't drinking, and am in the service. I've taken it easy since.
