Power Seat help

I just bought another 98 Base and neither power seat will go forward/back

but move in other directions fine. Anyone have the pin diagram for the seat switches? I'm thinking it's the switch. or if anyone knows of something specific that goes bad in them I'd appreaciate the help.

P.s I believe the motor is good on the pass side cause it would move forward but not back and now it's all the way forward.

Some simple checks would be good to do prior to tearing it all the way down. Sometimes listening for the "click" when you try to move it will tell you that the switch/seat motors are working. Then you just have to find the penny stuck in the track.....

I was thinking of switching the switches from my other 98 to see if that'd make it move. but it's not here it at my parents house so that'll hafta wait.

I played with the switches for a few minutes and got it to move back (slowly) so I'll hafta do the clean up from the write up

Hey at least you know it works! What's a hafta? :p

I knew this. Was being silly. :D My iPhone always does funny autocorrects so I feel ya.

I put some pics in a LVC post. I recently took my seat gear housing a part and found that the cause of this problem was that the worm gear was worn down. Here are some pics. The middle gear controls forward and back. Start trying to track down replacement tracks. passenger side ones are easy to come by and cheap. Driver side tracks a less available and more expensive.

Is it a safe bet that the same gear is used in both the driver's and passenger's track?

I wonder if any other Ford products share this assembly. Taurus, perhaps?

I believe I need the worm gear on my white one cause you can hear the motor move on it but I think the beige needs the motors cleaned up

If Ford were smart they would have used the same gear to reduce costs. but it could be a left-right situation where they are mirror copies. What I was thinking is someone need sot try and rebuild one from a a few bad seats and then write it up. My guess is everyone is thowing out the "dead" seats.

Maybe you could contact the seat manufacturer, Lear, and ask them if they have any, or could tell you the name of the gear supplier?
