Protective Film

I'v seen cars that are being transported that have a protective film applied to protect the finish from bugs and other debris encountered while on the truck, especially the ones on the top ramp. It looks like it's static cling, because when unloading the driver just pulls the stuff off. Does anyone know what this is, what it's called, where to get it, ect. 411 in general.

Lelani Lincoln has been primping for the past few day's. When she get her party dress on next week and we start our cruise to Carlisle, I'd like to be able to keep some of the bugs, and any road tar off the finish. There's all kinds of construction this time of the year, and I'd like to avoid having to clean tar off. It would be really cool to put some of that on, drive up, peel it off, do a little touch up, and be done. Otherwise, there's a couple hours work to be done Thursday on arrival. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks much,

Lee

RE: Protective Film

I've been on this quest for months now trying to find who makes this film. All to no avail. I haven't given up the search yet however.

RE: Protective Film

Sorry Art, those are not the white film that you see on new cars. The idea is to find the white stuff that you can apply yourself for a trip, then just peel it off and discard it when you get there. For the return, just cut and apply some more!

Leo,

You've got it exactly right. I guess I could always go hang out at the truck stop and find car hauler. I bet I could find one that would sell a roll. But, the draw back to that is that in San Antonio a lot of illegal deals go down at the major truck stops, not very savory place to hang out at.

RE: Protective Film

C'mon Lee, I don't believe that kind of stuff happens at truck stops. ;-)

I am going to PM you about our mini-meet after you get back from Carlisle. When I take my daughter to S.A. on the 4th, I am thinking about staying up there through the 8th with my buddy up there close to you.

RE: Protective Film

Leo: I would much rather have something that is clear. I would not want to see your red car with white plastic. I don't even want white plastic on my white car.

RE: Protective Film

I don't care what it look slike on a rip, as long as it's protected!

RE: Protective Film

The clear stuff is applied with an adhesive for long term use. I'm afraid getting that off might be like removing window tint adhesive. I just want the temporary stuff for the trip.
