Radar Detector Detector?

J

OCCUPY LoD :)
This is the first time I've heard of this (probably because the advancement of technology) but I thought it was quite funny how confusing it could get.

Wiki

many early "stealth" radar detectors were equipped with a radar-detector-detector-detector circuit, which shuts down the main radar receiver when the detector-detector's signal is sensed,

LOL!

the development of the radar-detector-detector-detector-detector-detector was deemed necessary

Meh, they're all pointless. Radar detectors pretty much notify you that you are about to get a ticket once they are hit with a laser beam, not too mention it does no good when the officer flips the radar on at the last second when you fly past going 20 over. I had a radar detector and my dad is a Chaplain for the local PD. He looked at me and said, "you might as well pawn that thing". LOL He was on plenty of ridealongs where the person getting a ticket had what?? Yup, you guessed it. :D

Yes, cheap equipment is totally worthless. Anything that says cobra, rocky mountain radar, and a few others is worthless. Escort, Bell, and Valentine 1 are the only ones worth ANYTHING. Also, all of my stuff is pretty much not noticeable to a cop walking up to the car. Its all tucked away. But if you are the only car on the road and the cop uses instant on radar, yea, you are screwed.

I can't tell you how many times my V1 and laser jammer combo have saved me though. I'm not talking about $25 jammers either. These are laser diode based and work VERY well. I've tested the jammers with 3 different brand police laser guns, in our testing on my car they jammed from about 2500 feet (where I came around the corner) all the way to the gun.

Mine has paid for itself 200X over...

I know this...but do you have a radar detector detector detector??

Does any of this stuff really work? lol I mean no one knows unless you are going 90 past a stationary cop who is definitely watching you and doesn't pull you over rather throws his hands up in disgust. I never bothered, I just speed and hope for the best.

That is old news, that was/is needed in places where use of a detector is illegal and in places like Canada where if the cops catch you with one they take it out and smash it on the side of the road.

You can get detectors that are not detectable. They control their RF emissions of the local oscillator very well. I think the Bell STI is one that isn't detectable by a detector detector.

I thought radar detectors were illegal everywhere, due to FCC regs. Can't broadcast on a police band. Which radar freqs that those detectors operate on have been designated.

detector = receiver They are not illegal due to FCC regulations since they are not transmitting. I believe they are specifically illegal in VA, DC, and Canada. A radar jammer is illegal. Laser jammers are only specifically illegal in a few states.

I didn't think laser equipment would be illegal, because you can't regulate light....Oh wait....Yes you can. See:Daylight savings time, government regulation of light. LOL

lol on the daylight savings time. Its not that the laser diodes are regulated (well they are over a certain power threshold by the FDA), but some states specifically prohibit their use in defeating speed measurement equipment such as LIDAR.

Mine has saved me several times and.yes it does actually. The only thing it wont do is laser and those are pretty rare around here.

I've never got a ticket while having one and I've gotten 3 without.

I turned the laser feature on mine off...

People like Eric were always setting off... :p

Actually, a lot of cars (Infinitys mainly) with laser based cruise control were setting off... and I figured, if it really is a LEO, then I'm bagged anyway, so I might as well save myself from the annoying beeping...

The radar aspect is nice because of the advanced notice you get. If a patrol car is just sitting on the side of the road blasting away, I'll know about them in some cases miles before they ever see me... :D

I swear by my Valentine 1 but turn it off in VA, DC and other states where radar detectors are illegal.

It has served me well and no doubt saved me from a ticket several times. But you need to be aware of your surroundings and wary in locales you do not frequent to make the most use of radar detectors.

As far as laser detectors, they are worthless unless you are in traffic. I have no experience with any jammers but I know a couple of people who use them and swear by them.

The thing to realize is that while it's good for advanced warning, radar/lidar are tools used to CONFIRM the speed that I have already visually estimated you at. :) I have people contest radar/lidar crap in court all the time, but all I have to prove is that you were going faster then the speed limit visually. :D

Yeah,I have one of them....I call it the faster guy ahead of me.:D;)

That's how you do it, especially with radar. But again, we (CHP) have to visually estimate your speed first so as long as you are behind and a bit slower then the "rabbit", then you're golden. :D

That is old news,

New to me...that's why it was a question.

You can get detectors that are not detectable.

The wiki page was saying that detector detector detector detectors are really not used anymore, plus.......what agency uses a radar detector detector?

There really is no point to detector a violators detector, right? None that I can think of.

A device like that could possibly create a rip in space-time. Or at least a black hole.

It's definitely creating one in my brain.

That's what I'm saying....the detector detector can go on infinitely really, lol.
