Re-do rubber around Windows?

I love my 94 Mark8 but the rubber around the rear window is really showing it's age. It's not sitting smooth and flush anymore. It's hard to describe but it looks like it's simply dried out and has bubbled up. Also the rubber around the windshield is torn in one spot and partially hanging off. I'm wondering if anyone here has re-paired or replaced these? How difficult is it? Is it expensive?

Thanks for any info-

well, the rear rubber is part of the glass, and costs around $1200 to replace and appropiately called "lasagna trim". I have read where others have "tucked" it in, and others have trimmed it off. I dont know whats best.

Some folks have purchased some much larger self adhesive trim and covered the old trim completely.

my 93 was the same and i changed the rear window, of course i salvaged a window from another mark i parted, i wasnt about to spend the money on a new window, but i have 2 more rear windows with perfect gaskets for sale. you would have to pay someone to cut yours out and put the new one in, usually a mobile glass guy will charge about 50 per window, so 50 bucks to cut yours out, 50 to put the new one in, thats what my glass guy charges me so i cant complain for that price. the front rubber trim you are losing is part of the aluminum trim that surrounds the front glass, i also have these black aluminum windshield trims with perfect rubber on them too, but they are an akward size and can get costly to ship.

If you lift up the rubber trim, you'll see a channel underneath. Some have "tucked" it into this channel, with some adhesive and just cut little slices at the corners to make it work. Others have just took a razor blade and trimmed the sides and bottom off. Personally, when mine gets bad enough, I'll be tucking it in very neatly because this will make the ripples disappear.

I too tucked mine in.....but just Friday, I found out that doing it this way causes water to be trapped in the channel. I haven't figured out what I am going to do about that yet, but I am sure it'll cause the channel to rust.

Water stays in because you tucked in the bottom right? I imagine you'd only have to tuck in the sides because this is the only rippled part.

No, it was one the passenger SIDE! I really haven't gotten a chance to really look at it yet.....too busy answering your posts. We can sure tell when you get outta bed and turn on the computer!!!

Haha, ACTUALLY, I've been up for a while AND my computer stays on 24/7 :D I didn't post at all yesterday so I got to catch up. :)
