This just arrived on my desk about 30 seconds ago. Nice to see that Ford is keeping an eye on Lincoln, huh? It's not even part of Ford' "Premier Automotive Group"???

FORD SEES LUXURY TREND CONTINUING TO GROW

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 30, 2004 – David Thursfield, executive vice president and president, International Operations and Global Purchasing, said today that the world's major economies appear to be growing again, and if so, global automotive sales could reach 63 million in the next four years, fueling the trend to more luxury purchases that has been already been underway for the last decade. If the forecast holds, Ford Motor Company's Premier Automotive Group – which includes Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo -- could be a major beneficiary of this long-term trend.

RE: Remember Lincolns?

Why in the hell isn't there an American brand in FORD'S "premier ship our jobs overseas group"????

RE: Remember Lincolns?

VOLVO ?? There is only one Volvo that costs as much as a Lincoln, the S80. The S60, S40, and wagons all cost less. I don't get where Volvo should be there, and NOT Lincoln.

RE: Remember Lincolns?

It's PERCEPTION Sandy -- not REALITY!

Because a Volvo is bought by a luxury audience - it's automagically a Luxury car.

I'm getting more steamed every minute.

Go ahead - just meld the Lincoln line right into Mercury and no one will ever notice Lincoln ever again.

Better yet - turn it into the "truck division" of Mercury - and bring out a few SUVs as well. That will tank the brand name for sure.

STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!

RE: Remember Lincolns?

Think that's bad?

I don't wanna tell you what I heard from a really good source! How good? He works in the design studio of Lincoln and OWNS an ascMcLaren and when he needs parts, whom do you think he comes to??? Ummmm?

Okay? Lincoln's (2 cars) will ride on the largest chassis that Mazda offers, right now the RX8 (or R8) and the Mazda "6" ~ They will be small sedans (think Cadillac CTS) ~ None will be priced above $45,000.00.

In the near future Lincoln will not be playing with the Big Boys, namely Cadillac. Pricewise they will be at the top of the top of Buick's Park Avenue Ultra...or $46,000. Lincoln will in fact be leaving the "Luxury" field. It will compete with Volvo S60, Park Avenue, Saab 9.5, Infiniti M45, Lexus ES and MB C Class & BMW 3 Series.

RE: Remember Lincolns?

Sandy, I have a hard time believing that Lincoln would dump the town car. It is a good money maker for them and well known in the auto industry. I am aware of the plans to use the mazda line for some smaller lincolns, and that makes sense. Look how well recieved the LS was.

RE: Remember Lincolns?

The name Town Car will remain. I never said never. The car however will be as much like the Town Car of today (and the recent past) as Eggs are to cement!!

RE: Remember Lincolns?

Lincoln used to be a part of their "Premier Automotive Group" but was removed several years ago.
