Remove cats.?

I have decided on either removing the cats. or buying some High flow cats from SCP.
By removing the cats, is there a lose in low-end torque, etc..
Or should I just buy some high flow cats.

What is your opinion ?
Thanks.

RE: Remove cats.?

Hey Jon... I'm staying with cats to appease the smog police. I ordered mine off of Ebay. I'm going 2.5" all the way back.

RE: Remove cats.?

Just gut the stock ones. Its free.Well if you have a welder. If not you have to find someone to weld the pipes back on.

Jon
removing the cats is not as easy as you might think, the one on the drivers side is part of the exhaust manifold , it has been done in this forum but ,it is some work..The loss of low end torque is probably unnoticeable , if any .And installing turbo cats , I feel ,will offer no restriction to complete flowthrough system , with no cats..

RE: Remove cats.?

I just did a set this weekend with out ANY cutting.Just unbolt the passenger side/ Y pipe and you can get to the pass side and the third one. Then do the drivers side while still on the car.

The easiest thing to use is a piece of 1 to 1 1/2 inch pipe. Then a long pry bar with a bend at the end.It helps get in at an angle.

RE: Remove cats.?

Chris what are you doing to the drivers side hollowing it out , or breaking it off to weld in a new pipe? I assume you must weld a piece of pipe to attach the new cat to....I had my headers installed so I didn't have to deal with them , but I have seen pics of the manifold..

RE: Remove cats.?

Top cat, I know the work involved in either removing the cats or replacing them with a set of high flow cats, which is one reason I had my exhuast guy give me a rough estimate(I wouldn;t have done this job myself). I talked to SCP and I was "about" to buy the high flow cats from them, but instead I am saving the money into repairing some body damage to the back bumper and trunk. This needs to be done before any of "minor" mods go about.

Thanks for the replies thought guys. Very helpful info. if I do get back to doing this.
