Removing mufflers

Someone, I can't remember who, at Carlisle simply had removed his mufflers and kept the cats. The sound was very sweet! I didn't get a chance to ask him about drone, etc. Has anyone else done this? Your impressions?

RE: Removing mufflers

Leo,

when I had my 3rd cat cut out and replaced with a dual-in/dual out muffler, they first had cut out the OEM mufflers and put straight pipe in. I started it up to see how it sounded. It was very loud, and not what I would consider a "quality" exhaust note. I was much happier with the reduced volume but more manly burble that the addition of the flowmaster gave.

RE: Removing mufflers

I've been mufflerless for six mobnths or so and at first it was great, not a lot of drone, not really loud unless STOMPED on hard, but it has since become too loud for me. It sounds awesome at startup, but giving it half throttle makes it sound as if you are trying too hard. There is also some drone on the freeway that I didn't notice at first.
