Replacement Radio

Heh. I put in a "Joying" a couple years back, and it's not great, mostly due to it only having low memory and a slow-ish processor. But that was at a time when nobody else was doing android. It runs apps, has low touch latency, gps, and a couple SD slots. It checks a lot of boxes, but I suspect I'll be replacing it this season.

I've heard decent reviews of the modern crop of these Chinese Android units, particularly the "atoto," which claims to use a higher quality amplifier circuit than mine has.

If you've got the money, I'd look seriously at one of the mainstream brands, most of which have an "Android Auto" option on the market now.

Agreed, I like some that I've found but the angle of the dash will ensure it has glare al the time. I may go to the 9" floating unit from Pioneer, it's expensive but high quality and I can adjust it, thanks for the response. :)

If you go that way, I'm very curious to see the results. I've noticed quite a few of these "floating" units on the market lately. Personally, I'm not convinced I'll like the look. But as far as I know, nobody's attempted to install one in a Mark yet.

Please do keep us posted!

Agreed about the floating displays, I went and looked at them and they are fantastic, but not for a 1995 Mark VIII, too different looking to go with the interior. I just bought the Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX in dash stereo, should have everything I need, I'm ordering the PAC ROEM-FRD2 interface and the Metra 95-5817 dash kit from Crutchfield right now as well. At some point I'm going to add the XM radio option and rear/dash cameras but for now I'll be happy if this works in the car or if I'm going to have to wire to everything manually.

I believe so, I need to investigate, the previous owner doesn't remember how he hooked up the stereo and it was such a mess I just handed the mess to him when I took it out. I purchased the PAC ROEM-FRD2 interface so it will be connected as it should be. I'll temporarily wire the radio up and see how it works. I know I'll be doing it right but I believe there is a possibility I have to buy a new amp or re-wire to each speaker.

I received the radio, not new but clearly used and charged full price for it, I swear customer service is dead today.

I installed the new radio, Best Buy gave my $60.00 back for their screw up, it has all the tech, use the phone for XM and other audio options like Pandora and Android Auto maps even using sat view is instant and very fast. Looking forward to enjoying my drives, the glare from the screen is one negative so far.

That sounds great! I'm glad to hear Best Buy took care of things for you too, that's a hard thing to prove. The wiring didn't give you any trouble?

I'd also be curious how the screen dimmer works. While driving at night, I prefer to have everything as dim as possible to help focus on the road. These big touchscreens can emit a lot of light.

I configured the screen dimmer to run before 6am and after 6pm, so far it has been excellent! Now I need to upgrade the stock speakers, the system sounds good but you know how it goes!

Best buy sold you a used head unit?

Yep, everything except the radio itself was still in the original packing, the receiver itself however didn't have the screen plastic and was placed in the foam baggy messy. I was pissed but the lack of availability for radios right now pushed me to keep it.
