Anyone out there do road racing at the track? I'm looking for track days in the Southeast. How well do relatively stock VIIIs do on a road course?

RE: ROAD RACING?

I don't know about tracks in the south east as I'm in Ca and our 7 tracks here keep us busy. I see your in NC. VIR shouldn't be that far away and is an awesome track. First thing I recommend is brake fluid. You will boil normal fluid in 1-2 laps. I've done it in half a lap before. Put in Motul 600 or some other racing fluid. People complain that its expensive but its only 25 bucks. I love motul and have been using it for about 3 years. Motorcycle shops will have it.

Tires are crucial. If you have the stock wheels go with a sticky 245/50/16. I was lucky to get a free pair of race tires and they are ridiculos fun. Start out with street tires though. You will learn more.

The car is heavy!!!! You will spend most of the time judging weight transfer and when the tranny will decide to shift. You'll be fighting the auto all the time. With race tires, the car was surprisingly neutral and would oversteer and understeer equally depending and where the weight was. The car was very receptive to trail braking.

Go out and have a blast. The car was fun. My next evert will be a rallycross which should be really interesting.

RE: ROAD RACING?

I put in two of these when bleeding the system and the fluid runs clear for awhile. There are drawbacks to this type of fluid in that it needs to be changed more frequently because it absorbs water fast.
