Does anyone have any experience with these self-exciting alternators? I'm looking at one as an option for my '72 Jeep. (258CI I6, 3speed manual)
Currently, it has an alternator (good) with an external regulator (bad) and a number of 37 year old wires that connect the two. I've found that I can get the regulator, but I don't know if I'd care to be chasing down wiring problems for the rest of my days. I've seen a few of these one-wire jobbies on the market, and it looks like it might be a good fit. I like the (implied) simplicity. Power output appears to be higher as well.
Any thoughts? does anyone have a good source? Quadratec seems like a good start, although theirs are a bit more expensive. JC Whitney has 'em for less, but I suspect there's a good reason for that...
Thanks!
