RE: shipping tires

Just received some and shipped some.

A cross country shipment of rims was somewhere in the $60 range. One of those U-Haul "Medium" boxes you can buy are PERFECT for stock 16" rims - two to a box (actually 16" rims are 17" in size counting the lip and 7" wide rims actually measure about 8").

A full set of rims and tires came in my door at something like 56 pounds per wheel/tire - and the packaging was very simple - a circle of heavy cardboard on the top and bottom and that yellow banding around the diameter - about 4 bands on each. The tread was unprotected and perfect upon arrival. I believe for the sake of the delivery guy - they ship them one tire per package.

Right now Fed-ex ground is the lowest per pound. I did get a word of warning from my company shipping guy about Fed-ex ground however. He has had trouble with them (?)

RE: shipping tires

I've shipped tires mounted on wheels, and tires alone via FedEx Ground with great success. In both cases, I used strapping tape around them. For tires alone, I strapped two together - for the ones with wheels, I did them separately. For the wheels, I cut out cardboard "rounds" for the outsides of the wheels and taped them on for protection.

RE: shipping tires

Paul, I used to "receive" tires all day long, and unless they are wider than 375's, just stack them 2-tall, and bound them with heavy duty packing tape, or if you can get some plastic strap tape. Join them in 4 spots, and ship them 2 at a time, for a total of 2 packages per 4 tires.

UPS always brought our tires, but thats because they are almost across the street from Summit, and Tire rack, in Sparks, NV.

Cost should be(depending on tire size) approx $45-$60 for all.(tires, on average, cost $10.00 each to ship, so wider/more tires cost a bit more)

RE: shipping tires

As an unloader at UPS, we make sure the material gets to the recipient in perfect condition. Best shipping company out there. I take great time in making sure the wheels are taken off the truck ASAP, then tagged, and sent to the other outbound to be loaded and sent to your destination. I deal with many wheels and rims everyday, and all are handled with great care. Now I don't know about FED EX. Shipping costs are well worth the great care and delivery on these items. We take great responsibilty in making sure the products are handled with great care. That and making sure the recipient recieves their items on time is our #1 goal. Go through UPS. Great company and believe me, I KNOW.

Hope that helped you out.

RE: shipping tires

Yes, use a lot of bubble wrap.

I had to take out some 26's with rims the other day and they were heavy as a mother... 76 Pounds each. Never knew they got that heavy ,LOL. He had wrapped up pretty good in cardboard and plastic. We get a lot of nice performance tires( Firehawk, Nitto's, Goodyear...) and it just makes me want my rims and tires that much quicker. ;( Can't wait til spring.
