Simple but flexible exhaust setup

After surfing through a bunch of threads, I think what I want to do is a 2.5" Magnaflow dual/dual in place of my third cat with straight pipes all the way to the back. If that ends up too loud (though consensus seems to be it isn't), I can always have mufflers added later.

What size can should I order, in terms of muffler and overall dimensions? Can't seem to find the dual/dual ones in Summit's paper catalog. Going to check the online one right now.

Thanks,

Michael

EDIT: Seems Summit doesn't carry Magnaflow. How about an equivalent part number for a Flowmaster? Really want to burn this Summit certificate I have. If I can find something else to blow it on in the SRE catalog, how about a god source for Magnaflow?

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

Got it right there. Thanks for the tip. Have to find something else in the summit catalog to spend that certificate on. Oh darn.

Also thanks go out to Manson 73 for the info on his user page here. Got the exact part number of the unit I want, and some nifty pictures for the placement. Gonna go with how you set it up first, just the dual in/out x-muffler and some straightpipes. If it is too loud for me, I'll add the mufflers. Nice work on the sound/video clips, btw.

Regards,

Michael

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

They make one muffler that has an x pipe built in. I'd put that one where the third cat is with straight pipes all the way back, if that's what you want. But i think that might be too loud, you may want to go back and add mufflers in the rear later.

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

I did the center muffler with the x built in, I have no cats and booooooooy was it too loud, so I added the rear magnaflow mufflers in and no has subtle sound, much better!!! But again I have no cats, with cats would probably be nice. The actual tone with the center muffler is great, does not have that raspy sound kind of like a SHO without cats has the same thing!!!

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

no cats meaning you don't have the stock cats on the exhaust manifolds? I am thinking about this dual in/out muffler with the built in X and running nu mufflers. Like was said, I can go back and add them iff needed. What size pipes is everyone running fom the dual in out muffler?

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

I removed the pass. side Cat. completely, the drivers side I gutted since it is part of the manifold. Warning-it is really loud and has alot of drone if you just use the center mufler and no cats. I have 2 1/2 inch pipes which is what most people use.

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

what model dual/dual Magnaflow is everyone using? Does anyone make 2 1/2 tailpipes or do they have to be made t a shop?

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

um i posted the link just look at the tread.....some guys have prebent kits and some had custom shop ones done.

RE: Simple but flexible exhaust setup

that link takes you to a page with lots of mufflers. Which one is everyone using? The one with the built in X ? 2 1/2" ?
