I'm just really curious, and thought it might make for interesting discussion.

Are you currently serving?

Did you serve before?

What branch (or whatever it's called - sorry I don't know this stuff).

My dad is a Korean War vet, and my father-in-law was in the Marines, as was my brother-in-law.

Wow that is really cool Bud. You got work on the real early jets too... that technology was almost brand new in 56.

my grandfather, ( r.i.p ) was a world war II vet i really miss him, my cousin is a navy vet, my uncle is a vietnam vet. i almost went into the service back in 95 when i got out of high school because i was kind of making some bad decisions and getting into trouble, but my buddies father took me into his auto repair shop and taught me a whole ton about cars and it changed my life. i learned to grow up alot faster then my friends who were the same age as me, alot of them still havent grown up, i wonder what it would have been like if i did go into the service, maybe not good, because i dont like to be told what to do by anyone, and that doesnt work out in the service!!!

Served in British Army Oct 99 - May 06. Was a mechanic in the REME. (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) Did the following tours:

02 Falklands, 03 Iraq war, 04 Iraq peace keeping, 05 Iraq peace keeping.

Great grandad served WW1, Grandad served with Royal Artillery WW2, other Grandad served in Catering Corps in the 50s, Uncle served in Royal Army Ordinance Corps and was in Falklands, just after the war with Argentina.

Know Each Other?

Know Each Other?

Did you two know each other????

You mean Ken and I ??? He was Air Force, I was Navy. No, we didn't.

HAHAHA!! First jet I worked on was the F8U Crusader - world's first 1000 MPH jet fighter. There were a number of earlier jets. Had WWII lasted unto 1946, there would have been maybe 3 different jets in that war (FH-1 Phontom by McDonald -FJ Fury by North American and the F7U by Chance Vought). Others soon followed. The Grumman F9F was the Navy's front line (jet) aircraft of the Korean war.

If you want to know more about early Navy jets, here: http://www.microworks.net/pacific/aviation/jetplanes.htm

My Great-Grandpa was WWI (branch/station unknown), Grandpa was Army in WWII serving in an early-warning base in the islands off Alaska, Dad was drafted into the Army during 'Nam, but scored too high on the IQ test to get sent there (right or wrong, the military decided not to send the country's brightest to get slaughtered). He was sent to Germany where he helped put in missle sites.

Further back into the Beverly family tree, we had a Samuel Beverly who was a Union cavalry captain during the Civil War, and an unknown Beverly who fought along side William Wallace against the english centuries ago. Don't ask how we know that, it's been passed down orally. We do know that Beverly is a Scotish clan name meaning "Beaver Lake", known to reside in the contested areas way back then.

I served in the Navy Submarine Service from 07/78 to 07-98 as a Missile Technician worked on the Polaris A3 Ballistic missile and the Trident C4 Ballistic missile, 20 yrs retired as a MT1/SS (E-6). My dad and all my uncles served in WWII and Korea in the Army and Navy. None was lost In Action thank God, but one of my uncles was a POW in Korea for few years. Strange though as my uncles who served in the navy chased subs and i served on them:D

My screen name and avatar says it all. Ok, not all... I am currently in the Army Reserve. My rank is E-5 (Sergeant) and I am a petroleum vehicle operator. That means if I go to war, I get to drive the 5000 gallon jet fuel bomb! I have been in for 6 years, and have not been to Iraq.

I have been a US Marine for 9+ years now. I am currently a Staff Sergeant and plan on finishing up and retiring at age 42! You cant beat that. I have been to 18 countries in the last 4 years including Iraq, Afghanistan, & Beruit, Lebannon. Beruit was the best. We were the first Marines to go back there since the bombing on Oct 23 1983 that killed 248 Marines and Sailors. However, this time our mission was different, we evacuated 15 thousand+ Americans and took them to the beautiful island of Cypress. Thats where I was when I got word that my daughter was born.

Not me, But this was my Grandpa in WW2 in the South Pacific. He came back, but not his brother. Don't know much about his brother, Heck I did'nt even know he had one until after my Grandpa passed away. Best pictures I can get of pictures.

I served in the Air Force from 1978-1998. I was a photojournalist and got to see and do many things that most folks don't get to see and do. I have met presidents, seen the gore of war, the fear of terrorism and the joy of coming home. Great experience.

Kyle, I thank your mom and Grandpa, but I have to ask, besides causing me stress, what have you doe for me latey? ;)

Oops, have been on the road, missed this one. I served also.

US Air Force 96 LRS Transportation/Logistics from 1994 -7 NOV 2007.
USAF Reserves with 919th Special Operations Command Duke Field FL.

All done now and back to civillian clothes. :frown: Now i have to find out whats back in style now for normal daily work wear. haha It was so much easier wearing the same outfit everyday for 13 years. lol (I still keep the cleancut shaved look though).:)
Running a small auto/cargo transport company now for extra bucks and wishing i had time to finish the Mark. hehe I met some of the most honorable, funny and influencing people in my life through the Military and don't regret any of it at all. I have seen and experienced many things that i would of never had the opportunity to do so otherwise. All in all, it was a very interesting and exciting ride.;)
