Spark plugs...

I bought some Motorcraft plugs and duralst wires for my 94 mark. I have never changed plugs and wires or have done any serious work. What do i need to do to change the set out?
Also, my car takes about 3 seconds to start from a cold start. I turn the ignition and the power comes on but the engine doesnt start till about 3 seconds. all starts in after are instant. is this from the old plugs?
Im gonna get a walbro 255 fuel pump installed soon as well as a cobra fuel pump but i want to get the plugs and wires done first.

Deep sockets and about 18" in ratchet extensions.

Torque settings are VERY important. ~10 ft-lbs; hopefully someone will chime in and give an exact range.

Don't forget to blow out the holes before removing plug and after loosing. This keeps crap inside holes from falling into the chamber when you remove the plugs.

The delay in start could be a lot of things. Changing out the plugs and wires is a good start. If it still does it, check fuel pressure at rail and connector tightness/cleanliness on crank and cam sensors. It could also be a sign of crank sensor failure.

hey guys thanks for the info. i decided to just have a mechanic do it, as i was worried about screwing something up.he let me watch so i'll know for next time..
and i think this took care of the starting problem, although i've only cold started it twice since the change. but so far so good

Before you start your car "cold", turn the key to the "On" position and let the fuel pump prime the fuel system. I bet that will fix your 3 second starting issue. Your fuel pump will pressurize the system with a 3 second prime building up fuel pressure so your car will start faster. If you just turn the key straight to start, your fuel system won't have enough fuel to start.

This doesn't happen after you've driven it because the fuel system will stay pressurized for awhile, but if you leave it overnight, it will "bleed" out.

Give that a try. :)

Honestly, its VERY common...especially with women. They jump in, SLAM in the keys and go STRAIGHT to start....then its..."baaabe....my car takes a long time to start in the mornings....waahh...maaahh..." haha. Starts fine for me when I PRIME IT!

ok i'll try it on the morning. im wondering why it does it to begin with..maybe i need a new fuel pump?my retired mark never did this.
i ordered a walboro fuel pumplast week, just waiting for it in the mail :)

We had the same issue with the 95, wife complained the car cranked too long before it started. Changed out the plugs 2 days ago, starts right up now, wife is happy.

Damn complaining wifey's. Lol. Most of the time, the valve in the pump will gradually leak down. Not sure if its manufactured to do this so the car doesn't sit for a week with 90 PSI of pressure in the system, or if it just slowely "fails".

Druid....you probably had a completely different issue, his complaint was it takes long to start "cold" but after driving it, it starts fine.

Sounds more like the check valve is leaking back rather than fuel pump...but if this is the original pump...and if you have over 100k miles, it needs a new pump soon anyway.

yea im not sure if its the original pump or what. but the car does have 140k miles on it.
so anyways i thought the tune up fixed it but i was wrong. I did as j suggested and that made no difference.
where to go now?
