Steering Wheel Adjust

In the past week, the steering wheel adjustment quit adjusting (manual or with automatic setting) in the up/down mode. Works fine in the in/out settings both manual and auto. Anyone got any ideas. Bad switch? How hard is it to repair. Can I do it or is a Lincoln Service job?

RE: Steering Wheel Adjust

It's probably the switch, but no garauntee. I did mine myself. You have to remove the air bag (disconnect the battery, go drink a few beers, THEN come back, unscrew it and unplug it), pull the steering wheel, and it just slides off. You need to rent a steering wheel puller and hope the little holes it threads in on the wheel don't strip (mine did, made it a bitch of a job). All in all pretty easy, i wouldn't take it to the dealer.

RE: Steering Wheel Adjust

Well, it can't be the switch....I was just driving the car and I simply hit the bottom of the steering wheel in a downward swat and the dang thing went to my preset position. I could then also adjust it to any position I wanted....Got home, shut car off...S.W. went to full up and in position as it's supposed to. Reinstalled key and....oops...again it wouldn't adjust to the correct up/down position. Hit wheel as I did before...works. Think I'll just leave it alone so long as I know the code!

RE: Steering Wheel Adjust

Strange, my car has recently developed the exact same symptoms. It used to be that I'd hit the wheel and it'd move again, now that doesn't work anymore. The problem came about when it got REALLY hot outside around here, and my car is always outside in the sun. When I blast the A/C for a while and the interior cools down it starts to work again. I had to turn off the Easy Entry because it's uncomfortable for me to drive with the wheel all the way up. Shame, too, because that's one of my favorite (and certainly most used) features of this car.
