Sub and Amp Question

I'm looking for opinions on the Xtant X1244 12" sub and the JBL BP 600.1 and 1200.1 amps. I am looking into putting together a low -budget system starting with sub and amp first and then moving to head unit and interior speakers.

I have heard the Xtant 12's in person and I think they sound sweet. I can get the BP 1200.1 amp and the Xtant X1244 sub for about $550 together.

All opinions are welcome.

RE: Sub and Amp Question

The only problem I see is that you'll have your stock head unit and will either need an adapter going to the amp for the high level input or see if you can use one of the inputs out of the stock unit that go to the stock amp. Either way there is going to be distortion. I've heard people say that the distortion can cause harm to the speakers but I'm no expert on the subject.

RE: Sub and Amp Question

It should sound pretty good, with good SQ. I'm not a fan of the hex shape, they are trying to cop off Kicker's square L7's, but a hex shape doesn't really give more cone area like squares do. OTher than that, it should slam. If you get the 1200.1, get 2 subs, if you get one sub, stick with the 600.1.

RE: Sub and Amp Question

I might add a 2nd sub, that is why I'm considering the 1200.1.

RE: Sub and Amp Question

i agree with what was said earlier about changing out the stock head unit. deffinately add a 2nd or even 3rd sub with that amp. u can have an awesome looking/sounding trunk with those subs.

RE: Sub and Amp Question

Well I have to disagree with the distortion comment. You can run your subs off the high level out of your stock amp and it will sound fine. Just get a converter. No hiss, no humm, nothing. You don't even need a crossover because you're running off the low frequency out of the amp. This also ensures correct frequency fall off, your subs come in where the rest of your speakers fall off. On my car, wiring the subs like this cured a rattle problem I had from having the subs crossed over too low.

If you aren't trying to win any competitions and just want something that sounds good and hits hard, I'd get the best amp you can afford with a couple of inexpensive subs. I did the buy one get one free deal at Circuit City with a pair of tens and it worked out great for me.

Subs, and amps hurt your 1/4 mile times Steve.. What are you making your car slow again??????????? :O)

RE: Sub and Amp Question

That's why I'm only putting in one. Don't worry there will be another addition to my trunk that should offset the weight ;)
