Sunroofs & Systems

Who here that has a system also has a sunroof? How bad does it rattle?
I have a sunroof, and hopefully the system will soon be on it's way. Something tells me that it will make deadening the roof a but more difficult, not to mention trying to keep the sunroof itself quiet. x(

RE: Sunroofs & Systems

I do - no rattle at all. I am running 100 X 4 and 150 X 1 if that helps. Maybe with more power it might cause some rattle.

RE: Sunroofs & Systems

i miss my moonroof sometimes. but then i just come on here and read the complaints and it makes me glad i dont have one.

RE: Sunroofs & Systems

I had a 93 Mark VIII with a stock moonroof, really did not rattle that bad. I had to put a little piece of rubber under the track in the front, and problem solved. I had an after market moonroof installed in my 96, it rattles pretty good. In fact I am still chasing them down.

RE: Sunroofs & Systems

Jeff, when the bass hits in my car, the roof will flex up/down about half an inch each way. I have three 12" subs facing up, mounted in the rear deck. The sunroof has not rattled at all, (open or closed)this could be attributed to the factory sping-loaded wind deflector that I removed prior to installing the system. In this case, possibly preventing any rattles fom the deflector assembly.

Joe,

Do you happen to have any pictures of the factory spring-loaded deflector? I can't seem to find it on mine (factory moonroof), nothing ever seems to flip up (deflector or otherwise) when the roof is opened, and I wonder if this might be the source of my occasional rattle.

Thanks!

RE: Sunroofs & Systems

Scott, I don't have a pic, but if the deflector is there, you will see a black triangilar rod that spans across the front of the sunroof opening. It does'nt protrude above the roofline, it just moves up about 1.5 inches to prevent any turbulence in the cabin when the moonroof is retracted into the car. That rod is suspended by two ends (about 2-3" long) that are loaded by a "flat" type siver colored spring that is attatched by two rivets each. I'm not sure how much that piece may rattle, as I removed it so that I could properly paint the moonroof jamb along with the rest of the car. It wouldn't be a bad idea to check it, though.
