My Tach is not working ,Needle on 1000 rpm , There doesnt seem to be a peg for the needle to sit on , since it has never worked I dont know weather it is normal to sit there , dropping to zero when key comes on ,or weather it is stuck there. I was told when I bought the car it just stopped working ,no reason , since it would not have affected the sale I believe this to be true..Since the car is in primo condition I doubt its ever been apart...any ideas ???????
Also how do I get to it From underneath or from the front removing the whole cluster ????
Any help would be appreciated ....Thanks

RE: Tach stopped working

This happens a lot! You'll need a new tach, it's fairly inexpensive and easy to install. I know a someone once posted the details here, try doing a search.

It has also been noted that the plastic which the numbers are written on move slightly resting on the tach guage pin that the needle is mounted to. This in turn keeps the tach from working. If you take the dash apart and adjust the plastic you may find that the tach will begin to operate again. A lot of posts I have read were fixed using this method, of course you can just go out and buy a new tach as well.

RE: Tach stopped working

If you take out the gauges, you can probably pop off the tach needle, peel off the sticker for the tach numbers, restick it making sure it is exactly lined up with the backing (or just cut out the middle hole) and then put it all back together. I bet it will work again. That is what I had to do on mine. The sticker slides and makes the needle bind. If you notice the needle move periodically, you just need to do this quick fix.
