The real thunderbird pic

RE: The real thunderbird pic

That thing better be on fire, and aimed away from the crowd, if he's ejecting.

RE: The real thunderbird pic

They say a picture is worth a thousand words....

I can think of the two words the camera-man was saying right at that moment:

HOLY s***!!!!

talk about "the shot"..... I wonder where the camera was stationed to get that.... its almost as if the camera-man knew something was about to happen.

Is that a prison bus in the middle of the pic?? hahaha

Nice post UNSTOPPABLE!!!

Dave... I think the fire-ball is the rocket-eject system! And are those front wing flaps supposed to be facing down? Looks like the engine is still under power too(note exhaust from back of jet).

What a great pic!

RE: The real thunderbird pic

I'm not buying that pic.

1. The flaps appear to be in the correct position for a controlled landing.
2. The pixels resolution of the F-16 and the crowd it different.
3. The size of the plane, pilot and the canopy are not in scale with eachother.
4. A good portion of the crowd is walking around like nothing is going on.
5. An F-16 is extremly loud in normal flight it would have at least 80-90% of the crowds attention.
6. Either the plane or the pilot or the canopy would have to be blurred as all 3 are traveling at a different rate of speed.
7. Crash Fire Rescue wasn't even looking up. Besides that he would have aready been enroute to the anticipated landing zone. There would have been previous radio contact letting Crash Fire Rescue know that something is terribly wrong! Especially in a crowd situation.

I'm sure I'm missing a few points, but these are the ones that stand out immediately.

Wow, Sucks to be the camera guy. Even if the jet doesnt hit him, he will still get burned by the engine

RE: The real thunderbird pic

Oh oh and theres a blue mustang kicking up some dirt by the blue bus

it's a real incident.....

it's a real incident.....

Basically, the pilot "fornicated vertically". You should have seen the photos from a Russian Air Show a few years back that had a MiG-29 crash into the crowd. There were pieces and parts of bodies scattered everywhere, really terrible pictures from the aftermath.

The picture and incident are true. I've seen that same ejection scene from a couple of different angles now. The Air Force aerobatic team, the Thunderbirds and the Navy's Blue Angels have their air show routines set up so that all low-levels maneuvers are parallel to the runways away from the crowds. Over the years the Thunderbirds have lost at least eight planes in accidents that I can personally recall. I actually saw one crash during practice in California back in 1964 while practicing for a show the next day. In 1982 four crashed at once in practice out in Nevada. The Navy's Blue Angels have lost a few over the years also but because of the air show routines they haven't crash into the crowd.

I don't doubt that it happened. I'm just not sold on THAT particular picture. If it is an actual picture, then the scan of the picture isn't quite right. Something just doesn't look right to me.
