Things I Did Not Know...

BadSax

enjoys 3 martini lunches
Had I realized this...

I probably would have been doing way more dangerous and illegal things with BadSaxillac... :D
Besides with that kinda GVWR I could just put the new MK8 of the roof of CaddySax and take both to Carlisle... :D

I noticed it said 'Armored DTS'...does it mean what it says?

In any case, one has to wonder how your CV joints would handle 8500 lbs...

!!! Armored? really? do the doors sound funny when you knock on them? thick glass?

you just made the #1 spot on my "If I ever need a getaway driver" list, by the way..

He wasn't always?

And that is a good thing considering if you're with him, that's the time you're most likely to need that getaway driver. :p

GM started offering the DTS Armored version in 2004.....

In the post 9/11 world, the demand for higher levels of security have been great, and Cadillac offers this new model to meet those demands. With bulletproof glass, a special run-flat tire system and a self-sealing fuel tank, this new DeVille is easily the safest one ever

Joe, you should bring the car to a place with a large scale like a metal scrap yard and see what it weighs. I'm sure that will give you the answer if its actually armored or just built to handle the extra weight of putting armor on it.

Since I bought it new I have all the original documentation that came with it...

It is a DTS Performance, the only option is it missing is the radar based cruise control.

I'd love to know why the Mass RMV has the VIN associated with the armored model, but I really don't want to bother asking...

it's one of those 'no good can come of this' kind of questions... :D

As far as I know, Cadillac makes a DTS for Livery applications that has all extra heavy duty, well... everything. They are supposed to be cut into limos ets, you can tell because as sedans ride like a foot off the ground without the extra body weight. I assume they are also sold to companies that will armor them, but (I'm pretty sure) Cadillac makes an in-house armored car, which weights around 6000lbs...

Unloaded the Saxmobile weights in a little over 4100, and I think when I was at SSHS9 I tipped the scales at a little over 4200... :D which I think is fairly light for a reasonably large car... :D

BTW, as far as I know all the extra heavy duty mechanical stuff is already in the "performance" model...

"performance"... :D :D :D at least I like the stiffer magnetic suspension, base DTS rides like a water bed...

For the record I'll be the getaway driver anytime anyone needs... :D
Which like Sharon said, could very well be anytime anyone is with me... :D

Soon as I read the subject line I was thinking, "Man this is going to be a long thread." HAHA! Then I read this post in another thread..

Are the brackets not reusable?

Why don't they just sell the squishy part?

Haha! Jk J!

So was your car REALLY an armored model?

Oh I wish...
and really there is only one way to know for sure, but how many bullet holes would it take before the expense of fixing the damage is more then my $500 deductible? :D

BTW, I think you've forgotten my most recent classic...

Where I failed to notice the title "new mod to my other car"... :D

Or that in any of the pictures, the car was not so much a MK8... :D

But I am a life long learner... :p

Haha :) We all started somewhere! I was a clean-up boy at a mechanic shop...never went to school.
