Trouble with fuel gauges and system display

Greetings,

Back in January my fuel pump/sender was replaced at the dealership.* Ever since then the gauge is not reporting accurately. The computer shows the(within 1/2 gallon) accurate amount of fuel used, but remaining is just as inaccurate as the analog guage.

When full, all three show full.

When at 1/2 tank, the gauge, and fuel remaining show 1/3 tank. Fuel used shows ~9.

When near empty(2 or so gallons left), the gauge and the fuel remaining show empty, while fuel used shows ~16. Fuel remaining usually shows empty roundabout 3 gallons to go.

It is currently at the shop for drivers door handle and an oil change, so any advice would be great.

Anyone else get this wonderful experience, or has FoMoCo screwed me again?

Also the Service writer just called. He says that the parts in the car test correctly, and he doesn't recommend wasting a load of money on finding the loose dingus, or whatever it might be.

*If you are even thinking about a new fuel pump get a good one and get it put in. The OEM is about $700! ;( xo

RE: Trouble with fuel gauges and system display

Mine does the exact same thing... I just got used to it. When i used up about 5 gallons it still shows full but when there are 5 left its almoust next to empty. I use the Gallons used feature and it seems to be about accurate to 1/2 a gallon. Btw a Fuel pump for the mark can be bought for as low as $90.

Yeah, aftermarket, but what dealership lets you use aftermarket parts?

Over all, I miss my Mustangs more and more.

RE: Trouble with fuel gauges and system display

I've found both the gauges and computers really inaccurate in both my earlier '96 Mark VIII and my current '97. In particular the gauge, as it make a difference whether your angled left or right or up or down or some combination...
