RE: trunk light

Follow the LG/O wire from the lamp to the trunk lid lamp switch under the rear of the trunk lid.

RE: trunk light

On a 1994 & 1995 the source of the +12 volt power is at the Remote Keyless entry Module C 457 Pin 20 (White/Yellow wire). See if there is power there first. It then goes to the switch mounted in the trunk lid and turns on the bulb when the lid is open. On a 1994 that connector is C443 (Gray) It's only a 2 pin connector with power on one side (White/Yellow wire) and the bulb (Light Green/Orange wire) on the other. That would probably cover the 1st gen cars.

On a 1998, it's a little different. The SCIL (Steering Column Instrument and Lighting) module takes care of everything. According to the diagram, the bulb gets it's power directly from the SCIL Module. The diagram does not show a trunk switch as a separate unit. it shows it as being part of the trunk release solenoid. So, you would have +12 volts (battery voltage) coming directly into the bulb from the SCIL module pin 12, (Light Green/Yellow wire) and then when the trunk is opened, the ground to the bulb is made through the switch inside the solenoid (White/Yellow wire). I assume the 1997 models are the same as as the 1998. You only need a 12 volt light bulb with wires to check the power to the trunk lamp itself, however, you need either a meter or a self powered tester to check out the solenoid switch. That wire (White/Yellow) is mounted in the connector on the solenoid. The test lamp should light if you connect the wire from the self powered light to a known good ground and then place the probe on the White/Yellow wire. Check the bulb first (Light Green/Yellow wire) for +12 volts (battery voltage).
