Un-Official 1/4 times

Well, I got my new G-Tech Pro the other day and I had the chance to "test" it today in the Mark. It say's it's acurate within 2 feet and 1 tenth of a second. Don't know if that's true or not. What I'm looking for is other people that have actually ran their stock VIII's in the 1/4 mile. Here are the stats:
57 degree day
30.01 Baro pressure
14 gallons of gas in the tank (7/8 showing on the needle)
I weigh 209 lbs
I entered 4000 lbs in the G-Tech Pro total weight
Was driving highway speeds for about 1 hour
Car has only exhaust work (No 3rd convertor or resonator. 3" single split to 2, 2.5" at the differential and magnaflows.)
I've eliminated the engine beauty covers and air silencers throughout. Drilled numerous holes in the front of the air box.
That's it, stock from there. No K&N or anything.

1st run: 14.99 @ 99.2 60 secs: 6.44
2nd run: 15.32 @ 97.0 7.02
3rd run: 14.67 @ 105.1 6.21
4th run: 15.02 @ 100.0 6.57

Please post replies.

RE: Un-Official 1/4 times

Your et's are probably fairly close to actual but your mph's with the G-Tech are usually 3 to 5 mph too fast. Or at least that's what I found out using my G-Tech and then going to a real track later on. Nice times for your mods, you're right in the ballpark :).

RE: Un-Official 1/4 times

I would agree with DOHC, regarding the MPH. You should be around 94-96 mph with those times. One thing for sure, very inconsistent. These cars can usually run back to back to back 1/4 mi. passes without the e.t. fluctuation more than about 2/10s at the MOST. The times you posted were all over the place. However, that said, I realize I am being "picky" in a simulated 1/4 mi pass. The problem is... traction. at the track, traction will vary from pass to pass. For example, 60 ft times will easily show the outcome of traction, or lack there of. I found that on the 4 passes I have made on my bone stock 94, the fastest was a 15.07, and the slowest was a 15.13. These passes were made with a total of about 3 hours between the first and last pass, and the ambient air temp changed by 15 degrees. So, as you can see, the car was pretty consistent for a street car at the strip. 6/100ths separating all 4 passes. Guess what? Traction on my slowest pass yielded exactly 6/100's second difference between my fastest and my slowest pass. Therefore, the first 60 ft will be crucial in 1/4 mile e.t. in these cars.

I think your first pass, and your fourth pass are probably the two "closest" in reality. 14.99-15.02, but at more like 94 1/2 to 95 1/2 MPH is more like it.

Little known fact is, when you lose traction off the line, your MPH will go UP on paper. Why? Its like getting a rolling start. Wheel speed is higher if you are spinning off the line.

RE: Un-Official 1/4 times

Nice times. I too use a gtech which I got about a week ago. I have yet to run a 1/4 mile time. I did run the hp dyno last week. I have my chip removed right now and I came up with 310 hp on 5 separate runs.

RE: Un-Official 1/4 times

I agree with all comments. The MPH sounded very high for the times posted. Maybe the G-Tech stops clocking MPH when you "get out of it." I know I was still "on it" when the meter was flashing. The inconsistencies were probably from tire spin, loose debris on the side of the highway shoulder. I should have posted on the 14.67 run; I think there was a slight grade on my take-off, because the meter was zero'd out on the other runs, but read -.03 on that particular run when I started. I believe that the 14.99 and 15.02 are very reflective of the cars performance. In regard to horsepower readings, I logged the following:

278
292
294
295

All of the high readings occured right at the shift point from 1st to 2nd. I think all in all, it's as accurate as it can be for what it is. Hopefully that makes sense to you. When it comes down to it, I don't really care, I'm just having fun!

RE: Un-Official 1/4 times

With your mods you list I would trust the 290 to 295 hp range. They say that the gtech is acurate to about 4 hp give or take.
