Union Grove Drag Way results

RE: Union Grove Drag Way results

I did bad... real bad. But i'm going to blame it on the track. My 60' times were 3 tenths off what i can do consistently on the street (according to my Tazzo, and all my 60' times on the tazzo were well within a tenth of my timeslip). 15.5 was my embarrassing best. 3 runs in 4 hours. I waited in line 2.5 hours for my first run.

Dave, come to the Milan track this Wednesday. We'll get it all figured out, LOL.

...Yeah, Dave....those 2nd gens sure are slow ;). Just kidding there Bud, with those temp you were probably .5 or more off. Go to one of those weather conversion links...maybe you can get a 14.99 out of it. The big thing is it looks and sounds like you guys had FUN. :)

RE: Union Grove Drag Way results

The car felt plenty strong up top, and i should be able to run 14.9's all day long even with that weather. But nothing i could do would make it hook up off the line. While i was waiting for my first run, i figured i'd lighten the car. Took out the passenger and back seats, spare tire, tools, and subwoofer. Had 3 gallons of gas in it. Maybe that was why i couldn't hook up, i had no weight in the back. I was spinning real hard out of the hole, and it's not like i have enough power where i should be having a traction problem. If i could have knocked 3 tenths off the 60' (which i should be able to do, given anything other than dug-up dirty blacktop to launch on) then i'd be running an easy 5 tenths better in the quarter. I think if i'd had more runs i could have done better, even at that track. It was just way too busy. Maybe if i had decent tires it would help too.

Dave, what kind of trap speeds were you making? Also my best actual track times were run with traction control on for what it's worth. Track prep is everything at the track. I've run on tracks that were like walking on "fly paper" and others without any prep that felt I was launching on liquid soap.

Last time I went to the track it was very slick so I launched with T/C on which was fine until I hit 25 mph (T/C on first gens is only from 0-25 mph) and then it would get sideways.

The first time it happened I was lined up against a trailered track only race car that was so loud I couldn't hear my own car and I thought my tranny was slipping but it was really the tires starting to spin when I hit 25 mph.

I was hitting right around 93 mph. I would have tried traction control, but on a gen 2 as soon as it kicks in it cuts power (so bad you can hear it missing if you have exhaust), retards timing for at least 6 seconds, and short-shifts. I've almost gotten hit because of it a couple of times, it's so bad.

The last track i ran on was like fly paper. I could brake torque it to 3000 rpms (well maybe not that high but pretty damn high) and not get any wheelspin at all. The wheels would just catch and almost bog the engine. 300' concrete launch pad, all new blacktop on the rest of the strip. So much track bite that my friends feet were sticking to the track as he walked his bike to the line. This track (Great Lakes, in WI) was horrible. It was like they sprayed soap on it. People with decent tires, even in stock size, seemed to launch just fine, but i have General XP 2000's (just about the cheapest v-rated tire you can get) and i couldn't launch for beans. I raced Jeremi, i got 4 tenths on him on reaction time, he got 3 tenths on me on the 60' time, and at the end of the track we were neck and neck (actually he was ahead, by like .07 seconds or something like that). But he is running 245's, a decent brand too.

If i had all day to run, i'd have gotten some better times. If it weren't for all those money races they were running, and all the people oiling down the track, i'd have had time to toss all the crap back in my car and see what it'll do full-weight. It probably would have done better, because it would have gotten better traction.

RE: Union Grove Drag Way results

I don't realy believe I pulled 14.8 just because of the ice on the air filter... The car was in line for about 45 mins. or less.. I pushed it the whole way there. By the time I got up to race, My engine was heated back up. Just because I took a nice long break to let the engine cool down, and took all that ##### outta my car. I was hoping for a 14.7 or 14.65, that's what I was looking for. Knew it would'nt come off those bad times tho.

I would say the Exhaust helped about a tad bit there.

Damn guys I thought that the track hooked pretty good. Either that or the tracks here suck bad. I always have a hard time spraying off the line with the drag radials, but not that day. ???
