update on re-chrome directionals

OK, as some might know from my last post, I got a set of directionals from DSinclair. After looking at them, I thought I'd like the chrome redone, since they were east coast wheels. Well, I sent them to Santa Ana plating in So-Cal and they said the metal was too porous to take a new chrome job after they stripped them already. So I had a dilemma, since they had no chrome on them and I paid $350 to get them. They recommended Olympic Powdercoating just around the corner from them. I called them and the guy I spoke to (Brady) said they would look at them to see if they would powdercoat well. They sent me sample colors and I chose a silver flake metallic with clearcoat. A few days later he calls me saying that the metal was a bit porous from the weather they endured but should hold the powdercoating just fine. His words were "It might be a little wavy, but after the clearcoat goes on, only you would notice." So, I told him if he thought the porosity would be masked by the time it was all finished, I would do it.

A week later he calls me and say that he wanted to let me know that one had a blemish in the appearance of the clear coat because the rim wasn't properly stripped, making the finish show a few high spots, but were hardly noticeable. The other three looked great. Then yesterday the wheels show up on my doorstep. I was appauled to say the least that I paid for a refinish that looked terrible. The finish itself was beautiful. But they neglected to tell me the gravity of the porousness. They had craters in the metal surrounding the center cap/ bolt pattern area and some in the outer edges of the pattern. Then in the center cap area (down the bore) there is a lip that retains the Lincoln Logo center cap. On two of the wheels there's pitting in that but it's complete. The other two are nearly disintegrated. There's not enough metal left to hold the center cap in place.

So my wife called them back and complained and they're trying to B.S. her saying they warned me of this. Granted, they did tell me previously there was some pitting, but it would cover up pretty well. They never said the metal had deteriorated around the center cap area so bad it would be totally noticeable. She griped and complained for nearly 15 minutes, demanding a refund. They practically laughed at her. I didn't deal with it because I had surgery the day before and was not in the mood to deal with it. Now we're trying to work out a repair deal on them. If they had told me they could be repaired I would've paid to have them repaired BEFORE the powdercoating went on. I hate when a communication error turns into "it's not our fault they look that bad" and now I have $600 worth of paper weights.

If anyone can tell me how to post pics, I will. Otherwise I can send the pics to someone who can put them up for me. I want someone here to see how bad this is. I'm not blowing this out of proportion. Let me know if anyone can help post pics.

RE: update on re-chrome directionals

damn dude I'm sorry to hear that...............it's just not worth putting any money in to chroming stock rims though (not for me anyway).....just buy some nice aftermarkets and plus size it too. Hope you can fix them to look good.
