Went to track tonight......

I went to the track tonight and i'm a little dissapointed. The Temp was 80* and humidity was 90%.My best run was a 9.856 @74.195 but my reaction time was terrible a .731.I know that sucks!60 ft was 2.369.My next run was @9.89 @ 73.962 60 ft 2.388 but reaction was a lot better .368.the engine temp was a little higher so that would account for higher et. I had good traction very little wheelspin.these runs were all 1/8 mi.IF they were 1/4 mi I definately wouldnt be cryin...Does anyone know the conversion table to convert 1/8 to 1/4? im just looking for a ballpark figure.

RE: Went to track tonight......

In the past I ran a 9.856@74.53, and it went on to be 15.174@92.57. That was with a 2.311 60' time. Your reaction time should be over .500, but as close to that as you can get. Anything below .500 and you get a red light, which means you took off before the light was green. Pretty good times though, good job.

RE: Went to track tonight......

Ok.thanks.I was expecting a lower e.t. and more mph.Im running 4.10's and a geno chip.I thought I'd be in the high 8's around 80+ mph.

RE: Went to track tonight......

If you have 4.10's and a chip you should have much better times than that. Somthing is not right. were you using stock tires? unless you had drag radials I would expect extreme tire spin with 4.10's not very little tire spin. With exhaust and mass air I was running 9.5's@77mph in the 1/8 in 90 degree heat in SC.

RE: Went to track tonight......

Thats what I thought too.I'm using stock tires 225 60's pirelli's.tires dont spin ,If they do I cant tell.car pulls hard from 3000 rpm to gear change @6000.I left it in D and let it shift itself. There are no misfires, bogs etc.I agree somthing isnt right but its not an obvious problem, aside from poor mph and et's.If it wouldnt hook up i would feel a little better about it.I guess it's time to call Geno.

RE: Went to track tonight......

Did you try making a pass WITHOUT the chip?
"just to see" what would happen?

My '93 runs high 9.7's to mid or high 9.8's (at 74-75mph) in that kind of weather... the ONLY mod I have is a Chip from Dennis.
Without the chip it was runing 10.0's at 72mph.

Something is NOT right, you're car "should be" going a little quicker than it did. Even in that weather.

Could be the tires? I'm running 245.50's all the way around.

Was the Air ride off? Was the Traction Asst. off? Moonroof closed? (just pulling at ANYTHING I can think of) AC off? Trunk empty? How much gas did you have?

I know corsicana is kinda far from Baytown... but if you wanted to make the trip down here (Houston Raceway Park) I could meet you there... Or Sealy at Lonestar Raceway. (Sealy is an 1/8 Baytown is a 1/4)

We could "swap" EMC's and see what it runs. We could "swap" tires even, if ya wanted. I'd be willing to "make a day" out of it... see what we could get her to do! ;) And I'm SURE Mike (Nightsky) and Tom (XLRVIII) would be willing to help out as well.

RE: Went to track tonight......

No,i just ran it on the chip.I run 225-60's.Tire spin is almost nil.Roof was closed.car doesnt have traction assist,i removed spare tire,I did have7/8 tank of fuel.airride was on.Thanks for the generous offer,I may take you up on it.It will be in a month or so,at least,We are in the middle of buying a house, and dealing with all of the crap that goes along with it... Thanks again I'll keep in touch.

RE: Went to track tonight......

Next time you take a "trip to the strip", try a pass with you Air Ride OFF. Let the car get itself into it's NORMAL RIDE HEIGHT, then turn it off. That "should" get you about .10 quicker.

Might also want to try running it with 5 to 7 Gallons of gas. {my BEST pass was made on 5 gallons)
**Note: Every 100lbs is a tenth of a second.

Good luck with the house!!

And I'll/We'll be here whenever your ready to "make the trip south"!
...DO keep in touch!!

PS: Tip, on cutting a good reaction time (light), Try leaving off of 1,000 RPMs and "GO" as SOON as YOU SEE the 3RD YELLOW LIGHT "COME ON". And a .500 or .000 (depending upon track) is a PERFECT light.
For trying to get a BEST TIME or ET it IS better to leave off idle, but for trying to "cut a light" leaving off 1,000 RPMs has been the best for me, Tom and I believe Mike as well.

Oh yeah, DON'T forget to HAVE FUN!! ;)

RE: Went to track tonight......

great, thanks for the advice. Its been about 10 yrs since I've been to the track.Last time I ran ,I was driving a72 Cutlass w/ a 455.traction was nonexistant 3.07 non posi, and it SMOKED 1 tire the length of the 1/8 and it still ran 9.80 @ 76 mph.anyway thank you for the tip!see ya

RE: Went to track tonight......

My best R/T at Great Lakes Dragaway this weekend was .536 . Once that yellow comes on hit it. You'll get a good time. My best 1/8 was 9.711 with exhaust done. Air ride was on and had more than half a tank of gas !! That was my mistake. Also first time at the track. I was a newbie. Best 1/4 was 14.8. Was hoping for better.. Also 92 Degrees out. Made a difference.
