Wiper problem

Have a 98 mark vIII and the wipers work fine, except: when you turn the wipers off they go to the opposite position as at rest (roughly 12:00) Will not go to usual shut off position:
 
Well, I searched and didnt find it, but the repair is as follows. Unless the motor is burned up, when you select park, the motor rotates in the opposite direction from on. The first or second joint in the linkage is a cam that changes the position of the blades. (I have brain fade) Over time this joint drys up, and wont allow the cam to function. Take the linkage off and oil the heck out of that sucker and "Oui La"
 
thanks for the ideas, I will probably try to clean and oil first, then if that does work I guess I will replace it. Thanks Again! LL forever
