Carlisle 2010 Suggestions?

All the ideas and opinions here are great and all true... except... Carlisle Events is not going to change, simple as that. Telling them how to run their business won't work.

Of course they will change. They have changed over the years.

The price goes up. The 'freebies' are less. The tents are more expensive. You now pay for tables and chairs. They charge for things that were free.

I look how at cheap the dash plaques have gotten over the years I have been going, lol

True, expenses are up everywhere. I do feel we get a lot of "bang for the buck" with this show, though. There's so much to see and do during the weekend.

I've been to shows that cost $20 to register for one day, and I didn't feel it was really a good show . . . not worth the money ;)

It's too bad they're land-locked, and can't expand the size of the grounds to support their shows.

They COULD go UP another layer!! LOL

Could we get them to hold the preregistration open longer?
is there a reason they end it at a certain point? (I'm sure there is)
since we know who among us has preregistered, can't we hold those spots?
how many among us didn't preregister? (not pointing fingers, just curious...)

I know, my spot went to others all three days...
and I'm not sure how many Carlisle people I want involved in parking, besides the obvious, someone might notice I keep not bringing a MK8, the more we can do on our own, the more freedom we have... :D

Also, wtf was up with us having to leave the tent Sunday?
how late are we able to use the show field?

Also, I know you may have to catch your breath after you read this next one, but is it worth having set times for things, like be at the field before 2PM :D

:D -J

I just thought we would suggest that members arrive early on Saturday, if they want the best chance to park together. Whether they come early or not is their choice ;)

2PM Hee, hee!!!! :D

Well i think it should be like this,if people want to park together they should be willing to get there early to ensure that happens

See, I rather disagree with that. I paid ahead of time for my spot, drove 650 miles to get there, and expect to park in my class whether I choose to sleep in a bit on Saturday or not. Kinda like my hotel - I pay ahead of time to reserve my room and expect it to be there when I arrive, even if I can't arrive at check-in time.

Well here is the best suggestion I can give then.Pick 1 or 2 people to be there ahead of any crowds. The week before give there number to all who have confirmed they are going and they can call them with when they can be there and have them hold that number of spots any one who does not call with an time will just have to take what they get. Hence the opertunity is there to be parked with the club.If they do not call it is on them and they can not complain

Unlike most other cars shows, this is not a first-come / first-served park-as-they-pull-in-the-gate event. Carlisle heavily promotes pre-registration and they organize the show field accordingly. To suggest that the parking spots are a first-come first-served basis is counter to the entire program. If X number of people PRE-register, there should be no reason whatsoever they would not have space to park in their appropriate class for judging.

For all intents and purposes, when you pre-register you are reserving a spot on the showfield. They base the number of classes by pre-registration numbers and the classes are sized and organized accordingly on the showfield.

It is not a matter of 'parking together' - the parking is already arranged according to the classes to be judged.

...but WHO enforces that rule??

As far as I know, absolutely no one. I remember back in maybe 2002, Ed had a hissy fit because an SUV decided to park with the Lincolns (and it didn't help that he hated SUV's either). The owner parked and left, and I don't remember how or if it was ever moved.

Not only that, but the markers designating classes get moved around by people.

There literally is no enforcement. Which is why I say the club needs to police the Lincoln area. After all, the club members have a super majority of the spaces pre-registered.

It's easy enough to do. All we need is the final pre-registration list and a couple volunteers. Verify the number of spots in each class and check-off the entrants as they arrive and have them park accordingly. There should be adequate spaces with a percentage of extra spaces (according to the Carlisle people). When NON pre-registered vehicles arrive, they get the extra spaces on a first-come/first-served basis. When the extra spaces are full, they should not be allowed to infiltrate the PRE-REGISTERED spaces.

...When the extra spaces are full, they should not be allowed to infiltrate the PRE-REGISTERED spaces.

I can just imagine the "discusssions" when trying to prevent someone from parking. Carlisle staff will never allow this.

We CAN take our own signs??? PRE-REGISTERED ONLY

Ditto

I'm telling you guys, the only way to do this is to push the pre-registrations, do a good job of convincing Rick and the staff to give us more space, get to the grounds early, and have volunteers guide people into the tightest possible spots with pre-registers closest to the tent and others starting at the ends. The spots are marked every 10 feet or so which is enough room for each car. The trick is keeping people from parking on an angle or hogging too much room.

How about this... there are always people who really don't care about getting the car judged or know they can never win an award. Some may be willing to have their cars parked perpendicular behind others depending on the room available. This frees up a lot of space.
