clunking noise

true but i will bet money that the noise he is geting is from the ball joint in thes part, my t-bird did it and my mark. it tool me forever to fined the noise on my car and the part felt good on the car. it wasent tell i took it off i could see how worn it was

Wow...worn out ball joints on an end link? Never would have guessed that.

yea I looked underneath the other day and everything looked tight and nothing moved around. So no luck, maybe these end links are the culprit

yah it was quiet on smoothe roads but any slight bump i would have thought the frunt end was going te come off or the motor drop under my feet. drove me crazy, i was looking at motor mounds and strut rods. I even hecked the a-frame bolts.

yea mine isn't that severe but it clunks, it just aint right, thats all I know.

I spent the extra money, hoping to get a part that lasts longer. On the thread saver one the boots wouldnt even stay on, and there was hardly any grease in them. I didn't want to have to replace it again in a year.

Any luck yet? I fined it funny that each day I click on the links I posted for AutoZone and it shows a different part each time instead of the one I selected. Will not do that again.

Had the same issue after my swap last summer to the coil conversion...at first I swore it was just bad struts in the conversion kit. But over the winter since I have torn the car completely down and started replacing all the parts it turned out to be a couple of issues, Tie rod ends, strut rod ends, and Ball joints...so I just ended up buying a whole front end basically and took the time to clean everything up too, boy did it need it.

Course only after all this work now Im thinking of going in a different direction and getting rid of the lincoln and going to pick up a CL55...hmmmm

I havent done anything really sinc eI bought the house last week, I'm so busy with renovating

Those end links are a critical part, particularly when cornering and the sway bar is 'loaded up' - i had one snap mid corner on a Nissan i owned - the sudden weight shift sent me spinning across a highway at a fair speed. When i did my front end rebuild, i still had a 'clunk' so i promptly replaced the end links with the Moog ones.

rattling noise

rattling noise

To add to the insanely long list of problems, I now have a rattle somewhere in the passenger side wall in the back seat, at first it was the seat (wasn't latched on completely) then it was the speaker in the wall (screw was loose) now it is coming back, wtf? What else is in there that is or can get loose? I re tightened the speaker just to make sure.

+1 on shock mounts, but could it possibly be an exhaust heat shield. (depending on the sound of the rattle). Hey Mike, you should definitely join up wit Mark viii's of NY. There are good people there also.

ok this sound has gotten worse, I took off the whole interior side of the car that the rattling is coming from and its not there. It seems to be coming from the bottom half of that side, can someone tell me where this shock mount is? Is it under the car or in a wheel well? I looked through the trunk to see. A picture would be nice, if possible. Thanks

Looks at top of rear shocks.... if the rubber mount is deteriorated, it needs replacing. Open trunk, pull back the carpet from the left and right sides towards the front of the car - near back seat back - you'll see where the shocks mount to the frame there. J had posted the replacement procedure in here somewhere...do a search.

I've been trying to chase down a noise (I'd call it a clunk more than a rattle though)
If I'm driving it sounds like it's coming from the rear pass. side and the one time I was a pass. it sounded like it was coming from the drivers side.

I've replaced the shocks and mounts.
I can't remeber what the part is called, but had something to do with the driveshaft and the part not being needed since I went from 2 piece to 1 piece. Not it!
I installed a pinion brace.

now I'm told it is probably this:
Rear Suspension Toe Compensator

The bushings are shot.

Hope this helps.

Honestly, I've never understood what the heck the rear toe compensator was all about anyways!

As far as the shock mount goes, here's what mine looked like in the trunk...

Another thought crossed my mind. You may want to pull the rear seat back off or peel back the liner in the back of the trunk and investigate the X brace behind the rear seat. I've understood these may crack over time and maybe it could be broken and vibrating?
