ok thanks, I think thats what we were going to change anyway, even though it seemed to have a full bushing, I guess they can look good but not be good?

The clunking is when the bolts that hold that together have come loose. You'll need to put lock-tite on the bolts, or put an extra nut on the bottom of the bolt to keep it in.

ok just to make sure before I buy this stuff, It clunks all the time, turning, stopping, going, bumps, is this the sway bar center clamp, the sway bar end links.

The center clamp is very easy to resolve...put a ratchet with extensions on it and tighten down good. If the noise is unchanged, then get tie rods and change them out.

Dude it's the links. Get it fixed already. If you want to test it beforehand, just remove the link on one or both sides and tie up the sway bar. Drive it clunk free.

I have never seen a lose clamp on over 25 cars I've worked on or owned. They do wear out, I am sure, but won't cause a lose clunk like you're hearing.

I'm going I'm going, I don't have all the time in the world, lol. I do this stuff in stages

Happened to mine when I upgraded the sway bar. The bar twists which can slowly work the retaining bolt loose. In fact, I lost an entire clamp on the road. Made a big time "CLANK" over every bump while turning.

Besides, it costs nothing and takes very little time to check it. If I'm right, he saves a hundred bucks and a couple hours of work. If I'm wrong, he loses five minutes. I don't see what the problem is.

In the red boxes...access is from the top of the engine looking down. I used about 24" of ratchet extension to get them.
ok if you mean those big-ass bolts you can see when you look straight down then yes, they are tight. I guess option 2 is where I am at. I really am beginning to hate this car

I went to change the sway bar end links, some Z shaped bar with two bolts. Anyway it wasn't that and it seemed the sway bar bushings were the problem and I swapped out on the left side and even though the noise is less it still F'ING clunks! I hate it, I swear I hate spending all day trying to do something spending money I don't have and getting nothing for it. Not only that but my inner sides of both front tires have uneven wear for no apparent reason with the right side wearing right through to a flat. Related? I don't know, I don't know WTF this stupid noise is from and I feel like I am just throwing parts at it trying to figure it out. I don't see anything else loose when it is on the lift, the noise is obvious, can be heard clearly from the outside and is definitely consistent. But I just can't figure out what it is, I wish someone would buy this car and take away my misery!

We CAN'T buy it now Mike.... it's worth too much to you!!! Sorry man, I KNOW how frustrating it can be..... have you taken it to see the Lincoln dealer? Might be cheaper in the end!

no I was thinking of doing that though, you may be right. arghh I almost shot it yesterday lol

Have you tried the strut rod bushings? They are attached for and aft on item 5 in the above drawing. These also have a major impact on your wheel alignment as well.

No, #5 is the bar that the arrow is actually touching...not the sway bar directly above it.

Those bars have bushings on each end that are pretty much toast after 100k, letting the wheels move front to back independantly of the car.

Do you know if those have been replaced?

yep, thats the bar I did, and we put sway bar bushings on it, no wonder it didn't fit that good, lol
