Something knocking inside my valve cover!

I haven't been driving, or working on it. Just overthinking it. If it's a valve spring, does the cam have to come out?

No.

What is involved in getting the valve covers off. I just want to know before I dive into it. I want to fix the car, but it's probably going to be a slow process.

Time to buy the repair cd/DVD on ebay! Then search for the instructions that have been posted on here....you can do a search as easily as I can......

I did it using the CD and whatever I heard from the guys here. I also had a younger helper.... gee! Almost everyone else is younger!

Or you could buy a stethascope and then realize it's just an exhaust leak. Gosh!

PAssenger side is easy. Bud and I recently did this and put up 1 or 2 threads on it. The drivers side is a PIA because the cover does not pass by the brake master cylinder. BEst way is to loosen the drivers side motor mount cross bolt. Then remove the driver side cross bolt. Then tilt the engine up a few inches from the drivers side untill the covers comes out. You need to fenagle it a bit to get the right angle. People have stated they have done it by just shifting the MC to the side. I spent an hour trying that at first with no luck.

It DOES have an exhaust leak. The flange rotted off the driver's side. I am sure I can fix it with a split flange. I wish it were that simple. Maybe it is. I'll fix that and see what happens, it needs to be fixed regardless.
I live in Massachusetts.
