Yeah, that seat raises questions. Some camera angles look like Cordovan and some look like Toreador. Could just be the camera and lighting. I think I will drive down and check it out. I went to high school in that town and grew up in the next town over. I can pay a friend and the P's a visit.

Those "in the know" about this very car know it's a steal. Don't let the crappy ad fool ya ;)

Mike, let's deal. I want that car, but can't have so many projects all at once.
I just told hubby to give you a call. If it's really that much of a steal, I want to know why and why we want it and which of our cars we should sell. Maybe we can sell one to the kids cheap. Or that can be my summer car. Jeremi, tell us :).

ETA: Just saw the "deal" part. Yeah, that's an option too as my car needs significant work, and we do have the ability (I think) to garage store the car for now, although it'd be a bit of a hassle.

Well, i looked at the car.

The good.
It is definetly a 23K mile car. That seat is firm although there is leather wear from someone getting in and out. It is a CE. very rust free.

the bad
front end has some repainting. painting was done on the car. Can tell due to the over spray. missing a front CE center cap. missing the phone. Driver sun visor has a wear hole like there was a clip up there. headlights are crystal clear but the passenger's has a huge gouge in the plastic and is garbage. You would have to find a perfect replacement or it would not match the driver's side. The front repaint is soso due to the visible orange peel on the bumper. passenger side mirror is cracked at the elbow by the door and has a very bad repaint. Some abrasions along the bottom of the passengers side door trim that runs the length of the middle of the car.

The car could have a simple poor touch up paint job or maybe it was in accident. It was nut shriveling cold so I did not look super close at everything. It is clean but has some issues that would need to be resolved. We are talking about getting it. I have a friend with a shop near this place so I may see if he will let me put it on his lift for a closer look.

According to NADA Guides for a 24,000 mile 98 LSC: $5,050. I would definitely point out the flaws you discovered. They're most likely into it for more than that though, I think I read $6800? Dealerships use NADA instead of Kelly Blue Book.

Hope you get it!

Back on page 1 but I got my wires mixed up! The $6800 is the one in Florida, the first one I posted. I have no idea what the Illinois dealership paid for the 98 CE, my mistake. In any case I would inform the guy what NADA indicates for it in that condition and go from there.

It's been on there for a long while, I'm guessing because it's the "rare" gold they can ask for that amount. But they won't get it.

Another thing. The head lights had frost on the inside. Plus, the windshield has frost on the inside, but just in the lower left side. Is it possible the windshield leaks? The only time I have seen this on a car is when I leave a window open.

I'd check to see if the carpet is wet, the usual spots, passenger and driver's side floor and rear floors. Check that it's not missing one of those rubber floor plugs in the rear floor.:)

Also, there's a possibility of the heater core leaking, although you would think you'd see that on the right side of the windshield. If the coolant was never changed, it can cause problems in the heater core. If the coolant is too old it will appear cloudy, not clear like it should.

I took another look at this car. Much warmer and drier today so it was easier to get a better look. The is a very clean So Cali car. The engine compartment and under neath are extremely clean. There was some type of front end damage or work. Niether fender has the VIN label, although they were likely Cordovan. The car has a ton of bad repaint on the lower half. There is over spray all over the underneath. Wouldn't suprise me if it starts peeling off soon. At least 1 fender was off the car or at least adjusted. Some of the body panel and door gaps are off. One screw is missing and the rest are painted over. The poor repaint effort is probably indicative of the effort spent rehanging the fenders and front bumper. I would think it was picked up at an auction, shipped to Chicago and then given a 1hr going over. Plus the repaint doesn't match perfect. I don't even think they lifted the trunk when they prayed it. The car ran and drove fantastic. Great throttle response and power. Might even have a traction lock since it fish tailed like it had one. It is too bad, If the right person got a hold of it I am sure it could have been correctly restored easily. Would not pay more $3500 since you would have to repaint it.

This is 3rd tier dealer. They were actually working on cars in the show room. When I walked in one of the cars wason jack stands and was running. They specialized in high end cars. My guess is they get them at auction, fix what they can for almost nothing, and then find the first unattentive buyer. They should have just parted it out. Someone would have gotten a perfect set of chrome 10 spokes.
