Fixing a Cloudy Side View Mirror

This is from my 97, although I've done this on my green 94 as well.

I carefully pulled the mirror off, it snaps off easily, but be careful, the heater and dimming wires are short. Then I unplugged the wires.

Then I cut the rubber rim around the mirror off, and cut the wire off of it with some side cutters. Then I removed the outer glass cover, and cleaned all the cloudy (Mirrorcon V:D ) fluid off of the mirror.

I actually had a spare good mirror that I just swapped in, but now I have a spare without the fluid, in case I need it in the future. I'll probably run a bit of RTV around the edge to seal the mirror.

Here's a before photo, a shot of the back, and an after photo.

No, the glass didn't break but the backing part wouldn't engage properly back in the motor part. Not sure what I did wrong since it's been quite a while.

I bought some stick on mirrors, under $20, a couple of times. 10 min, and your done. Can't tell the difference, unless you look for it.

I have back up mirrors for Gen 2, but not for gen 1. It was a quick fix, and haven't thought about fixing it right, it's for wifes DD, and she doesn't know the difference. lol

Bill, I remember 10+ years ago you posted this HOW TO on the other board and I used your method and it worked perfectly.
I no longer had a heated mirror, but I had a MIRROR I could see out of! Great advise Bill.

I also remember you posting a picture of a Cardinal admiring itself in your side mirror.

Glad to help Craig, as you've helped me.

The funny thing is the first one was on my green 94 and I still have that car.:)

The mirror heater still works, it's just the auto dimming that doesn't work anymore.
