So I finally got around to working on the Valdez today.

I datalogged the motor from a cold start, and found some things that were curious. While the engine was cold and running like crap (but had switched to closed loop fuel), the short term fuel trims were pegged at idle. Once the motor warmed up, and began idling decently, the short term fuel trims were quite small. I'm wondering if the O2 sensor heating circuits are failing and they only work properly once warm.

Joe, When is the last time the front O2 sensors were changed? Ever?

And while I still saw that cylinder 4 was missing frequently, I also recorded misses from #8. I'm thinking bad o-rings on the IMRC plates.

Disassembly starts tomorrow. ;)

That engine "was" dirty, no doubt. No white gloves this time ;) Or was it just leaking while waiting its turn ? I hate "leakers".

It's pretty much leaking from everywhere.

Joe, Didn't you guys just change the oil pan gasket?

And I found this unique K-Member bolt.

Here's something that everyone needs to take a look at. The wiring harness near the airbox tends to rub against the A/C piping, and in some cases, has worn through and caused shorts. Easy fix with a hose clamp using an existing screw.

I do this to every car I get my hands on.

Not to sound like a dick but wouldn't it be better to just sell this and put some money in to a nicer Mk8. This one looks like its past its prime.

The car is basically sound and it'll be fine when I'm done with it.

We changed the oil pan and filter adapter gasket on the red CE. When he was here I noticed that leaky senor when he was about to leave. I handed him a quart of oil and said get out of here.

Looks like any fluid you put in her has found a path to escape. :)

Funny.... surprised the spot on your driveway was as small as it was.
Normal leaks for a mark with miles, but that oil sensor that is dangerous, could lead to major oil spill.
At this point Im at a loss to finish this sentence.

Joe knows...???? :D

Well... I guess we're a go... sort of

Also, what that white stuff?

I feel pretty safe saying, never... I know I've never changed them.

This car hasn't had the oil pan off. I'm not sure what bolt you are referring too... (but I'm also not sure what I should be looking for)

I only spent 3 hours on Joe's car today, but it was fun. :p
Well... I am the most fun person I know... :D

Dickishness not withstanding... no... the car has good bones, and when I bought it I made a conscious choice that this is the one I'm keeping. :D

I do now... :D  :D

The "white stuff" is what happens when oil (from the Valdez) and rain water mix.

The K-Member has obviously been off at some point, and whoever did it must have had a problem with at least one of the 8 bolts and captured nuts that attach it to the body, and replaced it with standard bolt.
