Quickest Lincolns of Distinction - DISCUSSION

Got back from the track. I took both Marks. I first ran the Supercharged Gold 93 first and it spit and sputtered its way to a mid 12 run so I parked it for the day. Next was the stock Black 98 Mark and on its first run ran 14.72 and later a best of 14.59 WOW!. Trunk Monkey ran a new personal best beating mine. I think RobertP ran a new best also.
Well three years later and we finally fiquired out the problem and it was self inflicted. It use to have a custom made guard around the conical air cleaner. At some point my nephew removed it and forgot to replace it. The air intake is in front of the radiator and it appears the guard is needed to get the right air flow signal from the MAF. i could write pages about the grief this caused over a 4 year period. A very humbling experience for quite a few of us here. BUT THE MARK VIII IS RUNNING GREAT. AND IS AGAIN VERY FUN TO DRIVE ANYWERE.

Thanks, and congratulations thats fast. Hard to believe I lost almost 4 years of progress over this. Well back trying to making her faster but you set the bar pretty high.

Glad to see you back, Don!

Even better that you've tracked down that bug. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your efforts.

I cannot resist the urge. The local track here extended their season for 2 more events and I have a snell 2005 helmet I bought for $150 that is expiring this year that I have only used 3 times. This Saturday they are having a test day. The high is supposed to be 56 degrees. If it's anything like it was when I had Frosty out in these temps this time of year, the DA did in fact go negative. I ran 11.5 at 80 degrees and 2282 DA. Provided it stays together, wait until I post back here on Saturday. Say bye bye to your sbe nitrous time Frank. :p Next year I will bump timing and take the front sway bar off. Just a mild timing baseline pass in cool air for now.

The stars aligned perfectly. The car was driven to the track and back with absolutely zero issues. Forced air, cool fuel, and fantastic DA is a beautiful thing.

Now I have all winter to brainstorm about getting it into the 10s between more timing and some other ideas I have.

You are going to need a roll bar now, at least here in NJ you would,
It must've been an "outlaw track". Most sanctioned tracks that I know will warn you the first run and eject you the second run under the 11.5 limit for running without a roll bar.

I know a guy that used to work at the track. He is actually still good friends with the track event coordinator so I get some Intel from him. He says it really depends on who is there and their mood. This was a low attendance test day with the more expensive $70 admission. They just want the money....and my car was trapping pretty low mph which might have kept their eyes off the car. Who knows. Lol. 119mph is weak.

With "LOD" Since 1997
I know when tuners do track rentals here they over look the 11.5 rule too. But with public TNT they are strict, not sure if they still even have the state police overseeing inspection here or not.

I didn't even get a warning. They came over, removed #'s from my windows and said "Don't come back till you get a rollbar" !

Rules are rules, I was surprised they didn't come right over Im pretty sure they would have if Al Corda still owned the place. Better get a bar.
