That's so awesome that they are installing the switch in the midst of all of this mess..
Well being that i singed the contract and gave a deposit back on 8/18 it is the least they can do. I was scheduled to have this done Monday but Sandy had other plans. Financed on a 0% Discover card for 18 months.

I'd take a generator like Steve's but I can even get gas to put in it, lol this is so ridiculous. I live in a civilized society, wtf is going on? The house is cold the night is dark, and I can't drive anywhere. Mike can you just send me some cyanide?

Yea, gas lines are crazy and so are the people in them from what I am told. I have 5 gal in a can and 4 gal in the generator, then another 2.5 gal i put in my neighbors can when i lent him the generator. I filled up all the cars and cans before the storm. Friends here reporting stores are price gouging on water, etc. :(

The good thing is the new standby generator uses the natural gas from the street.

Mike, Where, exactly, are you? I have a 4WD truck, a generator and 10 gallons of gas.

Is there a way I could get to you?

I'm on Long Island, a bit past queens. The streets are clear, no rescue needed just electric and a gas station really.

I'll do it, if you need me to. I'm not looking for anything in return, except maybe some gas/toll money. ;)

However, you'll be on the hook for returning the generator and the two gas cans to me, along with 12.5 gallons of 89 octane gas or $50.

But, it's too late for today, as I'm not going to try it at night.

If you still need help in the morning, let me know, I'm willing to make the trek up there during the day tomorrow. I could also bring along any supplies that you might need.

It took 4 hours but I scored 4 gallons of gas. Not bad for a days haul, lol. Wtf am I saying? This is some end of the world crap right here but I've learned some valuable lessons.
  • 1. Cash on hand is best when a non hurricane strikes and wipes out life as I knew it
  • 2. Generator is key when you don't have electric, and stores of gas probably are helpful.
  • 3. bbq with full propane makes a great stove
  • 4. FILL THE CARS with gas before said storm hits ( so I don't end up with 2 empty tanks again )
    [\list]

Now the electric company is saying that it may be another week of no electric. Which includes no hot water. Wtf am I gonna do for a shower. Maybe I can get Leo's address.

Well since you are posting you have internet, in my area the local YMCA is letting people take hot showers. They are also handing out RTM, ice and water. Check out if they have anything like that by you.

NJ is going to start to ration gas tomorrow, there is going to do the odd and even system like the 1970s. The Obama administration is ordering the purchase of up to 12 million gallons of unleaded fuel and up to 10 million gallons of diesel fuel for distribution in areas impacted by Superstorm Sandy to supplement private sector efforts.

I am hoping things start to get back to normal next week.

I sold my generator to a friends brother, he will pick it up tomorrow.

I'm posting from my phone, it's the only thing I have had all week. No other electric. A back up battery and charging in my car repeatedly.

what is your zip code, i can try and search for help in your area?

If you want to come to NJ you can crash here for a night before you have to work if you have the gas to make it. I am about 35 to 40 mins from the outer bridge crossing, but with a lot of traffic lights still out it could take more if there is traffic.

I work in Brooklyn, thanks but it wouldn't work out, especially with no gas, my zip is 11762
