Time to replace the Mark.

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

I love the GTO, I might go test drive one this weekend. Just get the 6 speed }( If you wanted more luxury two words X-Type (Ok, one letter and one word) in AWD That would make a great replacement for the Mark.

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

Pete,

As you may know (or may not), I have been on a similar quest. I have been looking for a Mark replacement for the last year, and have driven most every car on your list (including the STi). Thus far, the best car I have found, and which leads my list is easily the Jaguar XJR. (may be buying a Carnival red on Oatmeal one this weekend!!) I know you don't want used, but you can get a year or two old Jag for what you'd pay new for one of those other cars, and it's head and shoulders above them. To me, it's like a 4 door Mark...but better. It's a sedan, but the way the front seats and the tranny tunnel is reminds me of the Mark. You you step inside, the Connelly leather smells like you've just entered a leather store. Kick off your shoes, and run your feet through the wool carpet. A small forest was killed to provide for the abundant burled walnut dash. The walnust dash, by the way, is beautiful. And goes from drivers door to drivers door. You get a real sense of luxury when you get in, which simply isn't the case for ANY domestic luxury car. The Harmon Kardon stereo is the 2nd best I've ever heard, being topped only by the Mark Levinson stereo in the Lexus. The auto transmission is the same transmission that Mercedes puts in their AMG cars. The engine is a supercharged 4.0 DOHC engine, and puts down 370HP and 390TQ at a mere 3600RPM. Of special note is that over 80% of this TQ is available from as low as 1500RPM. The car blasts from 0-60 in 5.2-5.5, and does the quarter mile in 13.5-13.7 In a casual street race, you certainly could suprise an unsuspecting Vette owner. Car has dynamic vehicle stability control too. ABS, heated seats front and back..all the good stuff. 18" wheels are standard. And the ride? Super quiet and comfortable..almost Lexus like, but not quite. It's close though. Here's a quick article to read over. http://popularmechanics.com/automot.../comparison_test_13_quickest_cars/print.phtml

And if you don't like the Jag, my next car on the list is a Lexus GS 400. Very, very nice car. If it wasn't for the extra 70HP and 70TQ, this baby would be in my driveway. Stupid quiet. I mean QUIET!!! And it has all the power down low the Mark lacked. A great car. Drop me a line if you want any of my other reviews....

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

I think im going with the 6 speed G35, i drove 2 jags, i just couldnt get "into" it i wanted a manual.

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

JD,

The 645 is awful. Do you see the size of the gaps between body panels?? The gap at the back near the trunk can fit 2 fingers into it easily. And the XJR will outhustle the 645 anyhow....

Pete,

Manual? I thought you could not shift properly?? As a side note..the G35 with a blower on them at only 6 pounds are putting down 350+RWHP. Not too shabby!!

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

Everybody says that. But about 14 months ago i set out to learn "stick" i thought it was going to be a tough long hard process of learning it with my disability. But in about 1 hour i had it down pat, and i owned a Dodge neon 5 speed beater for about 6 months.

Ron hit me up on AIM i got a few q's.

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

Well, if you're now a master of the manual transmission...

Cadillac CTS-V a little extra coin... but come'on... like a 4 door vette...

Otherwise, I think you should go in the complete opposite direction...
You've already got quick sporty cars...

Lincoln Town Car Ultimate L

Gotta' get a long wheelbase Town Car...
Probably one, if not, the biggest cars you can buy new,
Phat, phat, phat, phatty phat phat...

They are so much fun to drive, if I have the bucks, I’d own one...

Pete,
Age is just a number. ;)

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

Usual stupid excuses.....if we all spent a grand a year on maintenance and upgrades, our Marks would be flawless....

Waste your money, just dont bitch about it..

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

TE,

My 1997 Mark was flawless, but it still had shortcomings that some of the newer (or higher end) cars don't have. I have said it many times before, that my Mark treated me awesome. I had over 266,000kms on it, and is still running strong. I have long thought that the Mark VIII is a great "entry" luxury car..that is, someone's first step into a luxury car. I'm sorry, but the so-called "entry" luxury cars like the small Acuras, small Lexus and cars like the CTS are just cars with luxury items added in. The Mark VIII is a true luxury car. The guy I sold it to said he could never drive a non-luxury car again after owning the Mark. And the car I replaced the Mark with, although only a year newer manufacture, is definitely a step up in terms of just about everything the Mark did. But most definitely I'd recommend the VIII for anyone looking for their 1st luxury car. I think it was the best all around domestic luxury car available at the time....and still a very good car today.

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

Now that the GTO is on the list. That's the obvious choice. Sweet ride. I test drove it and fell in love.

RE: Time to replace the Mark.

GTO...PUHLEASE!!! With generic styling (or lack thereof) I would never even consider getting the full size Cavalier....errr GTO. Never mind the fact you CAN'T get a power moonroof, or even a normal sunroof instantly disqualifies it from any discussion involving "luxury".
